Why?!? Your poor hair!!

I didn't know women couldn't loc their hair in the military. Learn something new everyday.
Well, she used to tell me our hair (curlier 3/4 type strands) curl up too much and take longer to loc (which was kinda true for me) and the products she was using would keep the style in place longer. My hair looked great..but the health of it was another story.

Yeah, they consider locs to be 'unclean' and 'unkempt' though I have seen a few Army folks with locs..how they slip through the cracks I have no idea :spinning: I'm too far down on the totem pole to even make an attempt lol

Sounds sticky!

What are you supposed to use on them? If I want to do these myself and not rely on a stylist, what am I going to need? (besides patience)

When my locks were longer, I used to use Khamit Kinks hair oil on wetter than damp but not sopping hair. I never used clips and my hair held.

I sometimes used oil mixed with a medium hold clear (not black) gel. Or TW Lock It Up.

I'm kinda excited too. I'm not 100% sure about it, but it's either locs or a buzzcut...we shall see.

I love my length and can't wait to reach my next length goal but...i need a change!! And it definitely wont be a change back to chemically altering my texture...

POST PICTURES OF YOUR TWO STRAND TWISTS!!! I wanna seeee. Are you transitioning? what's goin on.

i would love to post pics but yall r brutal in the hair forum lol i would get clowned and i have a crazy hair history...

i started LHCF in 2007 as relaxed, then i decided to go natural July 2008 because as a newbie, i was convinced relaxers r from the devil lol

so i BC'ed, but i absolutely hated it so i wore halfwigs and weaves but my hairline was getting thin so i chopped again in early 2009-- i hated it even more the second time around so i continued with the weaves til my hair grew out...

then i got the bright idea to try and texlax... what a disaster... so right now my hair is natural at the roots, and my strands are a mix of texlaxed and overprocessed from me trying to correct the relaxer. WHEW... that was a mouthful

in short, my last relaxer was June 1st and my hair is shoulder length. im tired of always trying to figure out what to do with my hair next so i feel like locs are my next move.

actually, its all good. I dont really care. i hope these pics arent too big. i took them with my phone and the camera on the phone usually takes humongous pics

Im going to subscribe to this thread because I have really been wanting to loc since forever (but my SO & parents dont want me to).

However since I get bored easily, ill probably just exp temporarily with dred extensions.

Do what's best for YOU and YOUR HAIR.

"dreads" that they just twist their hair into, no matter the length?

Well, is it possible to start dreads on long black hair?

Or do you have to cut down and start wiht those twisty coils on short hair?

You can start locs at any length you choose..I have sisterlocs and I started them on natrual hair that was close to BSL.

oh and btw locs have shrinkage too...but afterwhile the locs condense and drop into place

So gimme the scoop. Why'd you choose sisterlocs over errythang else?

No Whimsy STOP you're seriously torturing me here!!! A buzz cut? You have really gorgeous hair curly or straight!!! I think you're NUTS but I do understand wanting a change. Why don't you braid it up and wear a short wig or something for a while, idk lol. I just can't stand the idea of you cutting that hair off or locking it even!
