A few years back (Old Black Hair Super Grow Out, i believe), I read about some ladies that just kept their hair wrapped as a regular style and grew it out to considerable lengths. Does anyone know someone who does this that only takes it down to wash once a week and wraps their hair around their head and wears a light head wrap everyday? For those who feel that they do not have this option do to work or preference etc. they probably would not like it, but for stay at home moms or retires, I think that this could really work. Sort of like dreads without the dreads. (I would like to do this on my natural hair and that means, rarely combing out, just combing on wash day). What do you think? I would love to reach waist length that way. Love some feedback.

Bonjour.

This sounds like a variation of protective styling. It sounds like you could work as long as the scarves are a gentle material.

Yeah - like satin or silk...I had thought of that at one time when I was still relaxing my hair. I just did not look hard enough for some nice head wraps....

I really like the idea if you can pull it off with some nice head wraps. I just do not know if I would be able to effectively wrap my napptural tresses.

It's funny you asked that. I know a girl in my class who wears wraps every single day. She has type 4ab hair and it is waist length. She swears this is how she grew her hair from shoulders to waist. I personally couldnt do this because for one, buns work best for me and also, with wrapping, over time, I would get this sore spot by one of my temples and it eventually started to bald a little. Thats when I realized wrapping was not for me and I had to nurse my poor hairline back to health. Her hairline on the other hand was beautiful. This may work. But if you start to feel sore on you temples over time from doing this,it might be a good idea to stop.

HLD if she never takes the wrap down unless it is wash time it can't be so hard on the hairline because she hardly combs it out.

This sounds like a good idea to me. I just recently bought a bunch of T-shirts & long satin scarves to match each one. The only thing is wrapping a satin scarf is a bit tricky sometimes when you're trying to avoid the "'bout to go to bed" look.

When I am at home I will wear the wrap around my ears and when I go out so that kind of takes the stress off the temple. When I go out I wear a hat in the summer, spring and fall and in the winter. Go figure. Do I really need any other hairstyle except for very special occasions?

. Also, I plan to just oil my scalp and hairline once a week. Now this is going to be hard for me, because I like to brush my hair and one of the reasons I am doing this is to stop using the brush except to smooth the edges only when I oil. Also this will stop me from overusing the products. I did this a couple of years ago and I would just spray moisturizer on my hair while it was wrapped and put the scarf back on. I could do this for two weeks. Each time I would take the wrap down it would be moisturized and swinging. Sometimes I would put a plastic bag over a silk scarf to really moisturize it and after removing the bag, I would leave the silk scarf on the wrapped hair until it was completely dry. Come to think of it, my hair looked so healthy and thick....hmm. Back to basics for me. If I can get it all to bra strap on the sides using this method, I will be some happy, ladies...which means my bra strap length at back will be....at the waist

Anyone else going to try this method with me, for at least 6 months?

Somehow this just feels right, know what I mean?
