I agree. If they wanna claim 3c, so what? If they're using the wrong products or doing the wrong things to their hair, they'll find out sooner or later and adjust.

ITA Coily! I really don't like threads like these. It reminds me of the "trimming" thread. I like this site because it is full of positive people (I thought) who are all on the same journey. Who cares what people do with their hair. respect their decision and if they ask for advice, give it respectfully, otherwise keep it moving!

I do like the typing system however, because it really does help me when trying out products. I hate having to keep buying things that don't work! It's easier for me to take advice from someone who is 4b, but that's just me and that doesn't necessarily always work, but for the most part it does.

I hope these hair-typing wars are not out of jealousy or envy. :nono: If someone has a certain hair type, then they have that hair type. No biggy. It's not gonna change the hair that naturally comes out of their head NOR your head for that matter.

So someone (intentionally or not) listing a wrong hair-type is only fooling themselves and those getting angry are only wasting their time because in the end, simply typing some words on the computer will NEVER change what God has and always will BLESS us with. JMHO

These threads come from the same element, if not the same people. I have absolutely no patience for this nonsense on LHCF.

I don't come to the hair board often...didn't realize that people still care about hair typing, I thought that it had been labeled as confusing and overrated a long time ago. :look:

This thread and ones like it on other boards irritate the hell out of me.

Why is there the need to put people in 'their place'? There is no demand for the "Yo hair ain't no betta than mine" police. If someone wants to call themselves a 3C, read it and move on.

Over the past year, I have read threads on here with people claiming they hit bra strap when they are barely at armpit and there are 30 'congratulations' but the 'you ain't 3C brigade' ain't in there putting nobody in check. They are in there 'hollerin' at they girl'. Which means it's perfectly acceptable to be delusional about the length of ones hair as long as you ain't claiming that it's 'good hair'.

As far as I'm concerned Den says she is a 4B, so she is a 4B. Her hair pulled taut and brushed shows waves. But to quote an equation from another site napps + product+ denman brush + scarf = waves. If you look at Den's album, when her hair is loose, there is no curl definition, even with a texturizer.

I really wish you losers would stop highjacking my thread. You do not know nasty.

I was not attacking world of curls, I was just using it as an example, duh.

And as you can see by the reaction to my post that a lot of people feel the same way.

I wish someone would have told me the right thing, instead of watching me make the wrong decisions and using the wrong information when they could easily help me out if the the first place.

How about if you don't like my thead, then don't post under it.

This was not suppose to be a conversation, I was making a statement. I really didn't expect anybody to post. I was just getting it out there that this is how the system is used.

Am I the only one who thinks den's natural hair is a 4 something? I can't see each strand close enough to say if its an a or b or whatever but her natural tresses are a 4 something. Her hair looks different now thats its been texturized but if you look back at her old pics she is a 4. Just my opinion.

As a newbie I have to throw in my 2 cents.

When I first came to LHCF, I saw so many siggys with hair types in them that I thought it was the thing to do. I thought typing your hair is one of the first steps you take in the hair journey so that you will know what products and techniques to use. Going through Andre Walker's hair typing system I found it to be confusing as hell. I think my hair is mostly type 4, but some parts of my hair are not and I just do not see a z pattern in my hair. I for damn sure know what a Z looks like and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with my trying to claim a so-called better hair type. It doesn't mean that I am ashamed of being a 4. Walker's definitions just do not fit. I am who I am, I look how I look, and my hair is what it is.

I wondered why anyone was even using Walker's system. There are other hair typing systems out there. To me the LOIS system makes a lot more sense. I like the Nap-O-Meter too. Walker's hair typing system is not only NOT an exact science, but it is not a science at all because it excludes so many variables. I mean, who the heck is this guy besides Oprah's hair stylist?

Does it really matter if someone says they are a 3a or 4b? Does it truly mean that black women who say their hair is a type 3 think they are better? What are we all doing here anyway? If someone 3a says they achieved a certain look and you are a 4b (or vice versa) and you try to duplicate it and can't... you just move on and try something different.

I would expect to see this kind of thread on another site, but not here. We are sharing each other's journeys and helping each other. We don't always agree on things, but we should remain supportive of each other.

good point. you know, i think hair type is a good thing to know. its not the only thing that matters, but it can be helpful. and true, i too thought it was the first step in one's hair care journey...for some, it IS the first step. i wouldn't throw hair type out with the bathwater. its just a way get a deeper understanding of your hair.

lol..I know I know. but thanks girl and brownsugar.

back OT-I didn't know people secretly wanted to be 3c's or b's. Whenever I saw someone saying they were I thought they just mistyped their hair by mistake, not on purpose. Its soo easy to do that, as we see in this thread not everyone is really clear on the hair typing thing.
Its also hard to clearly see on pics. I remeber people kept telling me I was a 3c..umm NO. Yeh Hair typing shouldn't matter but I use it to help me identify with others whose hair is like mine. I love to see what products and methods they use. I confess that I use to like the manageabilty peolpe had with their 3c hair type(wash n' go) but now that I know how to manage my own 4a/b hair I'm good.

It's funny, because people are laughing and joking in another thread about the "brainwashing" of some naturals who are extreme in there pro-natural, militant belifes, and yes, some people are EXTREME and over the top, but THIS is the kind of brainwashing that is the real problem among black woman in America... we are so obsessed with what hair type we have, wishing we had a certain hair type, making ourselves belive we have a certain hair type because we refuse to accept the hair type that we do have for whatever conscience or subconscience reason may be...this is the biggest form of brainwashing ever...but like I said in the other thread...no one likes to address this point.

Say That! :yep:

This is not about who has the best hair type. It is about knowing what kind of hair you so you can best take care of it.

No one said that!

Neither am I.
I just wish we would accept whatever hair type we have and stop trying to classify it. Plus stop telling others what they do or do not have.

I don't see the need to classify. The only thing that I see that matters is....is your hair healthy, oily, dry, or brittle? How to improve the elasticity, moisture, and ph.
:)

This thread has taken its course. I knew it would go bad. The finger pointing isn't necessary. I'm locking it.

Be Blessed.

I agree with this. My hair is actually 4a. I typed it based on air drying with NO product. After viewing the site and pics of other members, I also got confused, because people with hair that looks like mine were saying theirs was 3c. Once I add any product, cream based, leave in or whatever, coils and curls spring out more defined and pics really bring out curl def and makes it look silkier and shinier than it really is. Gotta love the camera flash!! When I did the bc, looking in the mirror I had a fro, looking at my pics I had all kinds of cute curls...lol. When ever people ask me I say it is 3c/4a but I think 3c is what most folx with hair like mine are typing it as.

Basically what it comes down to is using what works for you. I like to try products that people who have hair that looks like mine have had success with, regardless of how they type it. I'm rarely disappointed.

Please keep this topic civil. :)

ETA...never mind...I see its being locked now.
