4B HAIR WITH PRODUCT
Uhh, your hair is most definitely not 4b!

This is why I'm not typing anymore- it so darn contentious! And at the end of the day, who cares??? I think people really have a deep seated emotional problem with other people "trying" to claim the "better" hair types- why does it matter to you?
I have no clue who you are trying to call out but I don't believe this is common (people wearing a texturizer and calling it their hair type).
Is the implication that people say they are 3c in order to make themselves feel better???
This good/bad hair thing can't be shaked for nothing.

For real.

YOU KNOW WHAT!!! I'VE BEEN ON THIS FORUM FOR YEARS I MUST BE HONEST WITH YOU.....I AM COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY CONFUSED ABOUT THIS HAIR TYPE THING LOL. I PROMISE I WON'T MENTION MY HAIR TYPE ANYMORE, I'M JUST ADDING TO THE CONFUSION LOL I SHOULD KNOW BETTER
I agree.....
I wondered b/c I saw a website that one of the girls posted ...w/ pictures...and I KNOW what it takes to manage my hair, but confused on this typing thing...no..it doesn't matter, but I was interested in knowing my type. IF my posting offended anyone, it was unintentional..

The real question should be is "who gives a ish". Why do we care if somebody is typing their hair wrong. For real, the whole typing thing is confusing to me. I have to ask other people what my hair type is because it is not an exact science. What is the big deal about 3 C? Is that suppose to be a more desired hair type?

Also, everyone's hair is different. I don't use products becuase someone else whose hair looks like mine had success with it. Pictures are decieving. You don't know what products someone put in their hair to achieve the look. I go by what works well for CG.
Amen......

She is definitely not a 4b. A 4b is not supposed to have any curl definition.

I think most people are a bit confused about their hair type. While your hair may have some of the characteristics of one hair type, it's possible that it also has the same characteristics of another.

The only reason I even check for people's hair type is if I'm wondering if a certain product they said they have had good results with may do the same for me. Strangely enough, even that system doesn't work.
I agree totally with this.....but like y ou say, even some of those products don't work for all, but sometimes you find a winner

There are so many ladies in this forum thinking that they have a hair type that they don't

You have to look at least 1" inch of new growth and you base your hair type from that, accourding to Oprah's Stylist Adre

I have his book at home, and he is the person who invented the systen in the first place

How are your going to get a relaxer/texturizer and then say "Yeah this is my hair type"

We are smater than this ladies...
Thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of the members who claim 3c look a damn 4b and better, and whats worse, some have the nerve to mistaken it for a 2c   WTF . I can't understand, I could see how one could mistaken a 4a for a 3c, but to be a 4b and say you are a 3a/b, that just perplexes me

I agree with alot of the different opinions in this thread, but at the end of the day none of it matters. If you have whatever type hair and try to classify it as something "better" or whatever that means to you, you have issues you need to work through, end of story.

One of the reasons why I joined this board was to learn more about my hair and dispell myths that women of colour can't grow their own hair long.

We need to concentrate on supporting one another, but just like every other community, society, multi-populated gathering there will be those that aren't on the same page.

I agree. If they wanna claim 3c, so what? If they're using the wrong products or doing the wrong things to their hair, they'll find out sooner or later and adjust.

Typing the hair is a grey aea, but I like it to some extent.

When I need hair advice or want to compare notes, it is nice to know if another lady has a similar hair texture as my own, you know.

But, I don't base my whole life or hair care around it.

right on! i'm even more confused about hair types after reading the different discriptions on this thread  why can't we just support each other and move on.

i feel the same way about people that post their hair is 20inches long and it's barely past their neck(in the pics). whew, feels good to finally get that out.

Cosigning with you on this one, LOL. I really don't understand the whole hair type thing so I just claim 4a/b.

Yeah, what's the big deal? I am not their hairdresser.

I agree with babyanjel and Lauren450...if we know whoi those people are, then we just look at their poses like  and keep it movin. It's not like we can demand that they proclaim their true type as we see it...which would be silly anyway b/c photos can be deceiving and since we aren't there to run our fingers through it, who are we to say what type they have? I understand that it can be terribly confusing for newbies, but they should also know (from it being said repeatedly) that what works for one doesn't work for all.

And um, Natstar I'm right here with you reppin the coily 4as...not an ounce of shame! :::throwin up my 4A:::

i have seen the type 1 hair and the type 2 hair on relaxeed heads and i wonder if ur hair is truly type 1 or 2...why do u need a relaxer??

it makes no since right...so u know i think it is done to be better than....

personally i dont care...cuz it really gives me good laughs...

but dont pass out advice and ur brain is wharped on ''naturally straight'' your hair is....

ETA: i have noticed a lot of suspect naturals in the past few mths also...but i guess this is becuase some still think that a texturizer is natural....

if u never have chopped any amount of relaxed ends off u r not natural...i dont care how many years u transition...and if any type of curl pattern altering chemical service touches ur head...

u r not natural....i dont care how much u claim it is super kinky...

Hi Plenty,

I just saw your reply to my post and I replied over there and I'll send you a PM also, but I just wanted to inform you that i DO NOT have a RELAXER. If you look at my signature, I've not had any chemicals of any sort in my hair for almost 10 years!! (last relaxer was in 1997.) I also DO NOT HAVE A TEXTURIZER. So yes, that IS my NATURAL hair, as I said, it has conditioner and a dollop of mousse worked thru it. It IS my nautral "new growth." Heck, its 10 years of new growth!

I agreed with your post about women getting their hair type wrong, but I'm more than a little frustrated right now! You got your facts wrong about my hair! Again, NO RELAXER IS IN MY HAIR & NO TEXTURIZER IS IN IT. What IS in, is conditioner and mousse!

Why do you think they were talking about you specifically?

if you look at the post i started called "i'm coming out of the closet..." and you see plenty's reply to my post you'll understand why i posted this. i don't think its exclusively about me. i'm sure she's talking about other people too. but she did wrongly include me when she replied to my post.

I kind of giggle at some of the sistas' on here claiming this type, or that type because they wan't to make it seem like they have "good hair." It's funny because some of the best looking hair I've seen OVERALL, long or short, 4a or 3ZZZZZ, is just plain healthy(ends in tact, trim maintained):) Some of you ladies have proven that you can care about your hair and not worry about texture. I love you guys!!!

i'm not sure why hairtype really matters because there are some 4as on here with long beautiful hair and some 3bs with jacked up hair. there really is no point to squable about hair type because no matter your hair type if you don't know how to care for your hair then you will never see results

Wow, I'm surprised this thread has so many responses. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.

It's good to be aware of hair type so one can use the appropriate products and techniques, gauge how long to stretch and all that, but at the end of the day, we're all here to learn from one another and support each other. At least, that's why I'm here.

Peace & blessings

that's very true. healthy hair is the goal of everyone here. and people should be supportive of everyone here, whether they are type 1a, type 3c or type 4b! black people come in all different colors, shapes and hair types. we shouldn't start a new brand of 'colorism' over hair type.

Either way you can't generalize b/c "white" hair can be dry and need extra tender care and moisture like kinkier hair types.

Honestly, I do not really see the purpose of this topic and find it a big waste of time to over scrutinize hair types. Do YOU!

I agree. Different types have different needs. Folks w/ white hair worry about oil, folks w/ our hair worry about dryness. It matters, but not as a put down. Why the heck does it always come to that?

This thread and ones like it on other boards irritate the hell out of me.

Why is there the need to put people in 'their place'? There is no demand for the "Yo hair ain't no betta than mine" police. If someone wants to call themselves a 3C, read it and move on.

Over the past year, I have read threads on here with people claiming they hit bra strap when they are barely at armpit and there are 30 'congratulations' but the 'you ain't 3C brigade' ain't in there putting nobody in check. They are in there 'hollerin' at they girl'. Which means it's perfectly acceptable to be delusional about the length of ones hair as long as you ain't claiming that it's 'good hair'.

As far as I'm concerned Den says she is a 4B, so she is a 4B. Her hair pulled taut and brushed shows waves. But to quote an equation from another site napps + product+ denman brush + scarf = waves. If you look at Den's album, when her hair is loose, there is no curl definition, even with a texturizer.

ITA Coily! I really don't like threads like these. It reminds me of the "trimming" thread. I like this site because it is full of positive people (I thought) who are all on the same journey. Who cares what people do with their hair. respect their decision and if they ask for advice, give it respectfully, otherwise keep it moving!
