I really really really want to try this over the weekend, but I'm terrified!!!!

I'm relaxed, 4a (I think), about 6 weeks post. My hair is not super damaged, but i feel that it could definitely be stronger and more resilient. I've got moisturizing deep conditioners all lined up and ready to go for after the treatment, but I'm still conflicted:

-has anyone used a super moisturizing DC right after and STILL experienced damage from the treatment?

-does anyone use the 2-step that does NOT have extremely damaged hair? Or, since my hair is not crazy damaged, should I just leave well-enough alone?

hmmmmm....

I have fine 4A/B relaxed hair and the one time I tried the 2 step it left my hair hard as straw and breaking like it too. Even with conditioning, my hair had a completely different texture and feel to it (and not in a good way). It took weeks of DCing to correct the protein moisture imbalance. Normally my fine hair LOVES protein but this was way too much for my fine stands.

I will stick with the K-Pac and Aphogee 2 min lighter versions. The only hard protein my hair will not freak out with is Emergencee and I only do it once in a blue moon if I have major damage issues or after overprocessing with a relaxer.

I'm a natural head, so I don't know if my answers will still be helpful.

The treatment never caused me any damage. The only damage I'm thinking would come from protein overload or manipulating the hair when it's hard. I need a lot of protein so I feel fairly confident my hair won't get damaged and the only time I touch my hair when it's getting crunchy is make sure the protein is good and hard. And I only stick one finger in the spots I suspect are wet. And I do it very carefully. I also just rinse the hair until it's no longer hard before I use my hands to help me remove the rest of the protein.

My hair is not extremely damaged, but I have fine strands, so the tension exerted from me combing, no matter how gently, was breaking my hair. So I've upped my protein and committed to doing the 2-step every 6 weeks.

I'm guessing you could take some shed hair and see what happens when you try to snap it to see if you need more protein. There are threads on here about knowing if you need more protein in your regi. When I get a chance, I'll come back n post them 4 u.

I don't usually hear people in the middle with this one. Most people either love it or hate it.

I love it and I use it faithfully every 6-8 weeks. My hair is fine and not damaged. I use it to keep my hair strong and I deep condition right after.

I've been using it for 10 months now and I've never had any problems with it.

I have 4 something hair..I relaxed my hair 2 weeks ago. When i washed last week, i noticed my hair was mushy like in the water. so last night i decided to do the aphogee hard protein treatment and u talkin about being scurred! but i did it, then i dc'ed for about an hour. And when i combed this morning, not a single strand in the comb!!! My hair feels a lot better... I say go for it!

I'm relaxed and I've been using it every 6 weeks for the past 6 months. My hair is not damaged but it is thin. I love it. I follow it up with NTM Deep Recovery Mask for an hour with heat.

Ahh Barbie relax. It's nothing to be scuurrrdd of girl. Just put it on, let it FULLY dry and don't dare even look at a comb, and rise it out VERY well. The moisture DC it to the mega. You're hair will be like silk.

Sally's and Gilbert Ave has it. ;)

No girl...my hair ain't damaged AFAIK. Sometimes I just need a heavy duty protein top up to KEEP things in tip top shape.

Ok girl........I'm a do it. You got me....lol (I'm just too d@mn curious )

Now, is Silicon Mix moisturizing enough for after the treatment? Or should I stay away from it b/c it contains Keratin?

To answer your initial question, I have fine 4a/b hair and I use it about every 4-6 weeks, but I don't use the second step. I don't think its creamy enough... or something, idk. I use the 1st step and follow up with the alter ego garlic dc.

As for your second question, I would definitely stay away from the keratin. :nono:

Good luck!

My hair isnt damaged it is quite healthy... But I do it to stop breakage in its tracks!!! I definately step up my moisture game after using it. I just did one last week and I have had lil to no breakage. I had my hair in twist and when I took them out today my hair felt nice and strong.

I would just be careful not to use any other protein product for the next couple of weeks after to avoid protein overload.

I love the two step treatment and my hair isn't really damaged. I am transitioning and every once in a while I start to get a little breakage. When ever I use it my breakage completely stops! This stuff is truly amazing; I wish I knew about it years ago. Like all the other ladies said just condition well afterwards and you will be fine. Good luck : )
Oh yea, keep a towel handy because it drips a lot.

I do protein treatments w/ Aphogee 2 step about every 4 to 6 weeks. My hair is not damaged (thank you LHCF!!). Like ppg0069 said I do it to stop any breakage- even a little. I'm a little OC about breakage :look:. Anyway, I use the condish that comes with it or use my ORS DC. I have not had any problems only fabulous results! As many ladies here have said though don't manipulate the hair at all while the protein is in it and rinse well. If you do decide to try it post your results...
HTH

If you're worried about it try it on shed hair first...you can even follow it with the silicon mix to see if it's moisturizing enough (though I suspect with keratin in it, it's not).

I love Aphogee. It used to be my staple before Ayurveda. I have fine 3C-4A hair and I think Aphogee works incredibly well for my hair. Good luck!

P.S. Be sure to follow all the directions very carefully. Your hair will break if not done correctly. :nono: Also remember it is 2 steps - not one. The moisture balance step needs to be done after it. I think Aphogee's product works the best for this.

I have used it before and my hair wasnt damage. I use it to strengthen my hair up......

I'm also natural and I use it every six weeks also. I have fairly thick hair which can be hard to get through and sometimes results in breakage no matter how careful I try and be. I wash, use Step 1, sit under the dryer for 30-45 minutes, rinse until my hair falls thoroughly and then rinse fully. I follow up with the Balancing Moisturizer for 10 minutes, not manipulating the hair further, and rinse that out. I then deep condition (usually SitriNillah or Banana Brulee) for another 30-45 minutes before styling my hair. I've done this since May of this year with excellent results. At the time I alternate every 3 weeks with Nexxus Emergencee, and use a weekly light protein every other week (yeah, my hair needs protein like that ).

I'm going to try to taper off to every 12 weeks, alternating at 4 week intervals Emergencee and KPak, and see how that works.

Barbie: Yes, this would be a excellent time (of year) to implement the 2 Step into your Regi to Give Your Hair that Extra Needed "Kick."

As the Air Gets Dryer and Colder. (Although, not my Hard Core Protein of Choice), Still one of the Best IMO.:yep: I've had it plenty of times at the Salon(s).

Don't forget after hardening, no unnecessary hair handling, Rinse extremely well for a long, long, long, long time and Moisturize your Hair to the Maxx.:yep:

If you're worried about it try it on shed hair first...you can even follow it with the silicon mix to see if it's moisturizing enough (though I suspect with keratin in it, it's not).

Ooh! That's a VERY good idea. :yep: thanks!

My hair is not damaged and I use the 2 step aphogee as my protein. i have a condish that I use afterwards if I need to. My protein/moisture balancing keeps my hair healthy and i rarely have breakage.
