who is yall?? i might be riding the short bus today but i really don't get your point...

and i can only speak for myself when i say that yes, i do have 50-11 leavins at my disposal but i never used them all at the same time. my hair also needs different things at different times, and this, for me anyways, means that i need more than one or two leavins....and conditioners...and detanglers...and whatever else that can help my hair thrive.

Okay -- I Admit: I Have ALOT OF STUFF. Point Blank.

Pj-ism. Whatever. Call it What You Will.:look:

But I also think I have the Common Sense not to use them all at Once.:lachen:

Honestly, Who Would Pile On a Bunch Of The Same Product At the Same Time?

Maybe, I haven't spent enough time looking at individual's regimens (although I thought I had...) I'm on here enough....But then again: I am Not a Professional.

Honestly, I haven't seen too many People doing that. i.e. mixing 50-11 shampoos in one wash, 13-11 DC's all together etc.
.:perplexed

Folks May Mix some Fruits, Honey's, Eggs a Coupla' of Conditioners......

I don't because I want to make ensure the Money I invest in a Product, the Product is Able to Stand on it's Own But, I don't knock anyone that does, especially if "their Hair" Likes it.:look:

Therefore, I am not going to speak on it any further until I get more clarification.:nono:

As far as the bold, I've seen it many a time. For example, someone will mix two shampoos, then three dc's, and then use a moisturizer followed by 2 leave ins and an oil.

It's usually in threads people make asking for help because they can't figure out what went wrong. The problem is no one else can either because they used so many different things in one sitting.

I love that I found this board. It has helped me out alot as well.
I love that you guys put what you do down here for us to read.
I know that your hair is your hair and mine is mine.
I try to leave my "telling people what to do" in the salon.
People ask me alot, what should I do with my hair? What do you think about this or that? I may try to help when help is not needed. I am used to it. That is my job. It is hard to leave your job at your job. If you know what I am saying. I did not mean to affend anyone. I just like to help. Maybe to much.

That is ok. I am not trying to start up drama.
I am just writing what I see.
I see some of peoples routiens, and it looks like a bit much to me.
Now, I do watch alot of you tube and I know some people on there put to many things in their hair. Then the next vid that they do they are talking about how they don't use such and such anymore or how they need a clarifying. Or they are showing you a whole new routine. Last one was a bit much.
I am not trying to start a fight. I am just trying to help.

Which is cool...it might be a bit much for you but to some, thats a regular hair care routine. If you're trying to help, you cant start a thread by saying "yall put too much in your hair". There are better ways IMO to do that. You on LHCF, you know there are some people mixing some ish up and putting in their hair, you must have known that it was gonna offend someone at some point...

You always have to be prepared for different types of reactions when you give unsolicited advice. :yep:

I'm not mad or anything. I just think everyone should be free to do what they like with their hair without being hassled about it. Especially with the amount of healthy, long haired women around here.

Maybe in the future if you see someone with damaged hair doing the wrong things, you can send a nice PM. And it's possible that she would get mad at you  It's a risk you take when you offer advice.

OP I think that although your point may be somewhat valid, it boils down to it's not what you say, it's how you say it ... Also, I've been around here for a while and there are people on this board who are not hair stylists that I think know more about the science of hair and chemicals than most stylists do.

I know what you mean. Too many products at one time is just not good for the hair. Neither is changing products often. I think you have to give the product a chance to see what it will do over time, and remember not all products will work the same for you, as they worked for someone else.

As far as the bold, I've seen it many a time. For example, someone will mix two shampoos, then three dc's, and then use a moisturizer followed by 2 leave ins and an oil.

I often mix 2 or 3 shampoos OR DC's as a way to get rid of the ones that do nothing for my hair. I can't use them alone, so I mix them with the ones that work for me, till they finish and I don't buy them anymore.

I was just thinking this!!! I read the TGIF thread an was like "so you're going to do aaalllllllllll of that this weekend?".

KIS...this is my motto all the way!!!

I agree with the OP in some aspects, that a lot of times less is more. However many women are using a lot of products inadvertently trying to find out what does work on their hair. I don't think a post such as this thread should have such a chastising tone, but rather come with knowledge to give to those that are using 50-leven products incorrectly. The OP may not understand the logic behind using so many products because she has locs. Who would use a serum on locs, for example? Different hair, different needs, therefore different routine.

Others just like to experiment with different brands. That would be me. I have two 20 gallon containers of different hair and body products but only about 5 things are in rotation at any one time. In other words, I only use about 5 things on my hair. Shampoo, deep conditioner, cheapie conditioner, leave-in, moisturizer/oil. I do it because that's what it takes to maintain my hair. If it was too much I wouldn't have hair on my head, and we can all see that I DO.

I'm not saying it's a problem to mix things, just that it may not always be the best idea. Believe me, I've done the same thing in order to get rid of stuff. I have a bottle of like 5 different lotions mixed together in my shower that I use to shave with. You gotta do what you gotta do.

What the heck?!
Who are you to say who should be doing what with their hair?
You can say what works for YOU confidently and that's about it.
Variety is the spice of life.. plus how would anyone know what works and doesn't work (and what may work better) unless they try different stuff.

Some people KISS and their hair flourishes... some people try a lot of different things and their hair flourishes.

To each their own. I just find it somewhat offensive to post something like that. If that was the case we all would be using Blue Magic and Pink Oil still because we didn't know any better..

As I've said in another thread or two I am always confused about people's concern with other people's hair (ie, what they're doing with it, what they're calling it, etc). Do you and keep it moving.

am i the only one that didnt find anything wrong with the OP?

I think it's the way it came across. The first thing I thought was 'how dare anyone tell me what to do with my dang hair' especially if it's working for me. After I read it, I totally understood where she was coming from though.

I've seen it many times: a member on here will say oh I clarified w X shampoo, thwn used this poo, dc'd w this and then used this leave in plus this moisturizer and then sealed with this oil. We know we've seen it...and she actually brought up what I've always wondered: why 2 shampoos at once?

I've ALWAYS wondered why people clarify and then wash with shampoo afterward. I've even asked before and never got an answer. I've decided people just like to wash their hair a lot.

I believe the title of the thread is also key in setting off a strong response one way or the other.

right... i clarify every week cuz i want it clean and my hair likes it... i don't wanna sabotage the clean right after :lachen:

Really? I've never seen that. I don't even like to shampoo my hair much less clarify it because it always feels so stripped. I can't imagine people doing that. That's kinda...um...:drunk:.

And that makes sense.

It just doesn't make sense to me to clarify and then use shampoo right after. The clarifying got your hair clean, why the need to shampoo again? Even if the person uses a moisturizing shampoo (which is what people say) they're still over cleaning their hair.

Again I say that I am sorry. For the ones that agree with me, thank you.
This is the last I am going to say about this. As I said before, I love this board and happy to be a part of it.

I literally see it all the time. Especially in the regimen or what are you doing to your hair this weekend threads. It's always...clarify with x, then wash with y moisturizing shampoo. It doesn't make sense to me.

ETA: And you've disabled your pm's so I couldn't pm you back to tell you thank you for letting me know when those weave pics went up on bhm. Thanks!

I do it to get rid of that stropped feeling. My gentle poo puts a little bit of moisture in my hair and makes it easier to apply my DC.

Especially with my hair that shrinks so much, I have to finger part through a forest of hair to get a good root to tip application

It's not a huge part of my regimen, but it does help. :)

Valid reason imo. but oooops... I'm not "supposed" to be doing that to my hair.

Any reason you choose is a valid reason of course.

I'm just confused. If a person clarifies and the hair is stripped, then shampooing right after ward (even if it adds a bit of moisture) is only going to take more stuff from the hair (because shampoos are made to clean). So maybe the hair doesn't feel "stripped", but it still is. Am I making sense?
