Ok, I know this will sound boring to your long time LCHF guys but to me all this stuff is incredible!

I shaved my head a couple of weeks ago and now have this 'peach fuzz' on my head. I have been letting it get wet in the shower, and then putting leave in conditioner on it and then later some water based moisturiser. I know I dont HAVE any hair at the moment  but I am trying to get into good habits for when it grows.

Anyway, when I would run my hands over it it would be quite rough and prickly. I thought to myself, hey I am using moisture like the LCHF people say and is still dry - that must just be my hair 'type' - hard and dry, that's cool, I can live with that...

Then a couple of days ago, after the shower I used a few drops of west indian castor oil (which I understand is a mixture of almond oil and castor oil, correct me if I am wrong) and.... MY HAIR WAS SOFT

So excited, can't stop touching it lol.

Lol! that's great :D Maybe it just felt hard because the hair was just growing in? Like when you shave your legs, the hair comes back in prickly. Now that it's been a couple of weeks and the hair is bit longer, maybe it feels softer because it isn't sticking straight up from your scalp and lays a little when you run your fingers over it? Either way, glad that you have found something that works for you! A lot of women on here use castor oil and love it as well. I've been wanting to try almond oil for the longest. Where did you purchase your almond oil from? :)

You basically sealed in all that moisture with the Castor Oil mix - Heavy Sealing baby!! :2cool:

I love castor oil for sealing! I'm finding it's the oil my hair loves the most -- added in my leave-in, deep conditioners, prepoo and oil rinsing. I just ordered a case from amazon of 6 bottles that are 8 oz each! Did I mention that I love castor oil?!

The change from scratchy to soft was in one day so I don't think it grew that much. It is still super short and my husband is all like what are you doing on long hair care forum, you've got as much hair as an egg, lol

I'm in England and I got it from a black hair care shop.

@Charla - i add Castor Oil and Aloe Vera Juice to everything now...its a god send for moisture rentention and detangling.

when you say you add it to everything, what sort of things do you mean and doesnt it affect what the product is actually meant to do. e.g. like if you add it to your leave in conditioner will it still leave-in-condition with castor oil all up in there?

I might go down that path too:grin:

what is oil rinsing?

also do you use black jamaican castor oil. I watched a youtube video of someone making it and it seems like it is basically castor oil with black tea and cayenne pepper added to it (!), there's no wikipedia entry for black castor oil and it says that castor oil is normal oil colour to light brown so I guess black castor oil is specifically a hair concoction.

what castor oil do you guys use? The JBCO or just any castor oil like the ones at the pharmacy?

Chioniso This thread is all about oil rinsing. I've never used black castor oil. I just use the clear kind and make sure it says it's pure, cold pressed and hexane free. I'm currently using the Heritage Store brand that I purchased on Amazon or in health food store.

Bublin -- I forgot about the avj (besides in my leave-in/moisturizer). About how much are you adding to everything? Thx

Chioniso I believe JBCO is black/dark in colour because of the process (it is roasted rather than cold pressed - someone correct me if i'm wrong), not because it's regular castor mixed with other ingredients. A few years ago my Parents (they live in Jamaica) found an old lady that made the castor oil. They sent me a bottle and it was very dark and stunk to high heaven of burning/coal. That was the REAL stuff!
