Would you wash your hair today and get it relaxed tomorrow?

Hello ladies, I need some help from you very knowledgeable women. I am 11 weeks post relaxer today. The new growth is thick. I am trying to decide if I should relax it tomorrow or wait a little longer but before I go to the hair dresser I was thinking to wash it to tame the NG and do a protein treatment today. I can just hear my hair dresser now asking me why I have waited so long to get my hair relaxed. I am also having breakage along the hairline and there is a section at the back that is just NG which is a problem I have had on and off over the years. I guess it is a weak spot or because I wear my hair in one quite often. So, tell me what should I do?

Hi, and welcome! :)

The thing is, people are going to tell you different things based on their own experiences, so you're really going to have to assess what will be the best thing for you. I personally wait at least a week between washing and relaxing my hair only because I tend not to get any burns when I do this.

No way, not if I don't want relaxer burns. My scalp is very sensitive, so I have to wash a week prior to getting a relaxer (before my transition started lol). I would do a light protein treatment and then once dry, I'd grease my scalp with a sulfur grease in order to heal my scalp of any itchiness or scratches. I used to get BAD relaxer burns (one reason why I'm transitioning). HTH!

I thought you were natural? You're texlaxed? I would have never thought!

I'm texlaxed. I need to add that I don't leave the relaxer on my hair very long. But washing waiting a week and then relaxing for me is asking for a head full of sores.:nono:

Yep... seems to work different for people.

I used to clarify and DC 2-3 days before my relaxers and had no problems at all... in my case, my clean hair takes the relaxer better than my dirty hair with product build up.

I have to wait 48-72 hours after washing before I relax or my scalp will be on fire. I haven't noticed any difference in relaxing on clean or dirty hair. But then again, I wash frequently.

I always clarify 2-3 days before relaxing. When you have very little product in your hair, the relaxer takes better and you get more uniform results :)

Cosigning with clarifying and waiting three days. when your hair is clean and relatively product free, you do get better and more even results

Yes Cream Tee, I see that it's different for everyone. I might just relax it tomorrow and then do the protein treatment a week after. Should I oil the hair to soften the NG?

Co-Signing. When I relax my hair while it's dirty it always burns and processes unevenly. I wash the day before my relaxers, but I don't scratch my scalp while washing, I just rub with the pads of my fingers.

I usually wait atleast 3 days.

To each it's own, but I've never relaxed after washing so I don't know what the consequences, if any, would be for me.

I wait at least 3-4 days after washing to relax but during this time, I base my scalp because it is ubber sensitive to prevent burns. But if I relaxed on clean hair, then my scalp would be full will burns all over.
