besides my laziness, that is the only other reason i don't bother to get doobies on a more regular basis like i used to. my roots sweat right out. i can't deal. i've always worked out, but never had to in the past as much as i do now.
When I used to work out I would have cainrows as I didnt mind it sweating out. I think that if you wrap it and keep your silk headscraf on while you exercise, the sweat/steam from your head can provide a kind of shiny, smooth effect providing you have oil in it before you work out. I have tried it this way and it works, its not as good as perhaps wrapping your hair with no exercise but it is good none the less. But, ultimately, for me, workout does = no straight styles.
Could you adjust your workout schedule so that you can wear you hair straght a couple of days a week? I work out 4 days a week. I take a class Friday morning and don't work out again until Sunday night. The weekend is the time I wear my hair straight because I know I'll have a couple of days where I don't have to wash my hair. (I can't stand working out and not at least doing a conditioner wash.)
I used to exercise 3-4 times a week and stopped because I was tired of fooling with my hair. It forced me to wear straight hair all the time and I wanted a change. I didnt like getting a nice roller wrap and then have to put it in a ponytail so my hair wont get too sweaty.
I keep asking myself "should i sacrifice my hair or exercise?"
I know this sounds getto but I wear my rollers to the gym in the morning work out for the 1/2 hour, take my shower and as usual take my rollers out when I am ready to leave the house. My hair comes out like a roller wrap because I wear the biggest rollers I can to get that straight with a brend look. HTH
some of these suggestions are a possiblity, but i run, so i sweat alot and need, NEEEDDD to wash my hair. i'm thinking i'll have to sacrifice the hair, to do the exercise...cuz i have to exercise..*sighs*
I am a runner too. To keep my straight styles I usually rewash and set again. So I wash 2x a week. In between I will either run when I know that I am willing to wash that evening or do a less strenuous activity (like stair climbing) and pin my hair up really high on my head. Wearing a straight wrap 2-3 times a week is good enough for me
I work out at least four times a week. I usually just keep it wrapped and exercise with a scarf on. After I'm done, I take off my silk scarf and put on a cotton one to kind of soak up the sweat. As long as I make sure my hair is dry before I take it down, it's fine.
I have the very same problem. It is really sad that you have to choose between your hair looking good and getting in shape! I had started going to the salon every week last summer and then mid summer I decided that I wanted to get into shape. So now I only go to the salon every 2 weeks and have to wash my hair almost every other day. I have noticed when my hair is first relaxed that it will remain sleek when I wrap it but at weeks 4, 5 and 6 it is over are there any suggestions for a sister who want to have the best of both worlds?
i run 5 days/week and I wear my hair up; My hair has finally grown a lot bc of this. HOwever, when i want to wear my hair down, I do. I just pin it up in a way that when i take it down it will still look nice.
I work out 3-4x/week. I put my hair up in a high ponytail. I do a conditioner wash to get the salt out because I sweat horribly. My hair was shedding terribly before I found the board and learned about the CO washes. I simply re-set my doobie and go. Sometimes, I air dry in rollers or use a hooded dryer on a cool setting to dry my hair, it just depends on my schedule.

How long his your hair? I'm considering all options for my own hair when I start my workout routine, but my hair is so thick I don't think that I'll be able to wrap-n-air dry and get good results.

Hey Webby, my hair falls between my shoulder blades.
Less strenous workouts are an option, but it's going to start getting hot soon and I'm running outside (can't leave hubby alone with three boys ages 5, 2, and 2 mos.), so I'm not going to be able to escape the sweat...

I'm also dealing with this issue. I mostly wear my hair wavy, but when I do want a straight look, I dry my hair under my bonnet dryer on cool setting until it's semi-dry, and then I straighten with my ceramic/ionic dryer and ceramic brush. If I'm in hurry, I'll just blow dry and use my ceramic flat iron.
