Will I still retain length being product-free for a month or 2?

I just bought a human hair wig and I love, love it!. I sewed it on around the edges of my cornrows and now I can't get to my scalp to apply products. I probably can apply oilsheen, because there are gaps between the layers of my wig. I plan on wearing this wig for a month- 2 months, but I read somewhere on here that our hair needs added moisture to reach a desired PH balance to grow. So, my question is: Since I can't moisturize like I usually do, would I have a slower growth rate or is moisture mainly necessary for retention? It's obvious that I will be retaining anyways, because my hair is braided in a circle. So, do you ladies have any insights on this because I don't want to screw up? :wallbash:

Maybe a liquid leave in through the gaps, something like Sally's Miracle 7 spray leave in. How annoying would it be to redo this every 2 wks instead of monthly/every 2 months?

It would be very annoying, plus, I'm lazy and I love to brush and go.

You can use an applicator bottle from the BSS, fill it with a little conditioner, or oil or all 3 mixed in, and mostly water that way you get your hair slightly damp- damp and get the needed daily moisture in. Make sure you use as little product as possible like 1/4 product and 3/4 water, that way you'll have less build up. You don't want to keep your hair up dry, it will come down drier, and possibly damaged.

There are weave closure units similar to wigs but lighter mad of mesh, you an get in to moisturize and your hair can breathe, and made to sew in. hth

I agree. No product at all might not be the best move to avoid a setback...

You hair would be very dry for the take-down and that could lead to breakage.

To the bolded, moisture helps with retention. Your growth rate will stay the same. Yes your hair will be retained in the braids anyways but you don't want your hair to become dry and brittle from lack of moisture while in the braids. If that happens then it will just break off when you take your braids down.

There are some good suggestions above but I think you should consider taking off the wig and doing a good moisturizing DC at least every 1-2 weeks. Regular DC'ing will help you retain moisture in your strands so that you wont need to use extra moisturizer as often.

I think you should take it down and moisturize periodically or at least spray some moisturizing product through the mesh onto your hair.

OT: Could you show a pic of how it looks? I have always wondered about sewing on a wig

Probably not...that's a recipe for unintentional dredlocks, IMHO. Your hair still needs care and mainpulation even under fake hair.

I would get an applicator bottle and try to apply product that way.

My experience with oil sheen has been that it just sits on top of my hair (when I was relaxed) and it would cause dryness. It gave a nice sheen but it did not penetrate at all. As result I would end up with dull, weighed down hair. I don't use it anymore.
Going without moisture for anymore than a week-let alone 2 months- is not a good idea, IMO.
