Will a low heat setting on flat/curling irons cause damage?

I washed, conditioned and air dried my hair before flat ironing and curing it on a low setting (flat iron was set on 10 out of 30, and curling iron was on 3 out of 7). I know that this is still direct heat, but is it really damaging on such a low setting? Thanks.

I've been wondering this too...I've been meaning to do a roller set and then lightly flat iron, but I've been afraid.

If it's hot enough to damage your skin, it's hot enough to damage your hair!

This is what I was thinking...I have been setting my flat iron on low settings and so far I've received good results.
