Wigs 101

I'd like to try out wearing wigs, especially short ones, just to switch up my look from time to time and as a form of protective styling. I am completely clueless! I tried to search on here but with no luck. What are the basics for wearing wigs regarding looking after my own hair? WTH are the strap things for? What should I look for when buying a wig? With my budget as it is at the moment I'd like to stick to synthetic hair.

Keep your hair braided or plaited underneath. Shampoo every week or so. Moisturize as needed.

Don't sleep in your wigs.
Tighten the straps so that your wig is snug.
Look online at hairsisters.com for wigs $30 or less (mostly synthetic).
I like to visit the local bss so that I can try on wigs before I purchase.
