Why Is No Lye Relaxer bad for our hair?

I know we have talked about this in the past regarding the No lye relaxer. One of my girlfriends wants to know why it is better to use lye relaxer versus no lye. I told her that No lye had harsher chemicals and caused the hair to be really dry. I also told her that Shamboosie is against no lye as well but she needs more reasons.

Other than what you just mentioned above, that's all I've heard (being harsher on the hair, therefore making it drier - although it tends to be easy on the scalp - vs. no lye). I don't know what else you can tell her. Is she looking for other reasons / proof or what?

From what I've read--the main chemical used for straightening in no-lye relaxers is calcium-hydroxide. This chemical can leave a build-up of calcium deposits on the hairshaft over time, making your hair drier and brittle.
