Why Is My Kitchen So Struggly?

The center back portion of my head has always been the hardest portion of my head to maintain.

It is thin and 3b-3c. It's nothing like the 3c-4a dense thickness all over the rest of my head.

It grows fast but is constantly dry and much less dense than the rest of my head. Even when I had a relaxer it was the hardest part of my hair to maintain. Now that I'm natural. It's not breaking off but it feels less healthy. Idk what else to do to get it to grow! Help!

I don't have any advice to offer, but I came in here because for the past month I've been cutting my kitchen down to my neck lol so I feel your pain.

The center back of my head is also less dense and more fine. I don't know why. When I first went natural and I didn't have proper haircare techniques, I used to struggle and break that section off a lot. You just have to take special care and keep the texture difference in mind. I know I always make sure to section and part my hair in a way that I'm actually getting that part properly moisturized and not skipping it. My hair is fine now.

I have that same problem. The hair there is fine and likes to tangle and break.

Detangle it with water every day to hydrate it and keep the single strand knots at bay.

I can't wear my favorite fleece jacket with my hair down. It tears up the nape. If you're wearing a drying fabric or high collar, put your hair up.

Those are the two most important things that I think will keep your nape safe: water detangling and no drying fabric touching.

Wow, you have described my hair perfectly. Its the finest, silkiest part of my hair, grows pretty long, but matts something awful. I have a bald spot back there because it refuses to grow. I know if I kept it braided or twisted, it may improve, but honestly, I forget to treat that part differently.

This title made me laugh, but I feel your pain OP. My nape in the middle is finer and looser than the rest of my hair. It seems to grow faster, but imo it is more fragile. I have an area back there that broke off to an inch. It makes me sad, because it will take at least 2 years for thst area to catch up with the rest of my hair.

Wow this is exactly the lowest back portion of my hair. Honestly I treat it like the rest of my hair, which is a mixture of 3s and 4s. It has thrived because it grows the fastest despite any damage the rest of my hair sustains. I think porosity is an important part of it so I would try a lighter oil back there. I use almond oil all over my hair when its loose. The heavy stuff may be just sitting on it.
:drunk: This is the #1 reason I can't do wash and goes, it doesn't even curl anywhere near as much as the rest of my hair. :cry3:

The right side of my Nape hair suffers from this same disease....not only is it scraggy, its more coarse, breaks easily, demands for more attention. I do my best to oblige it but its soon annoying as its shorter than the rest of my hair

Keep the area hydrated. If you wear protective styles baby the area by keep it braided twisted and ultra hydrated. Up your DC (protein AND moisture)game and pay special attn to ths and anyother problem area. Make sure your DC touches each and every strand and then heat it up with a cap or under the dryer for optimal results.

This is my same issue. I've tried to explain to hairdressers and regla folk that my center nape hair is like a 2c/3a/3b. It's much more fine and less dense. Silky. And it grows longer than the rest. Quite a few women with this same issue. I wonder why...

Anyway. I make sure to be careful back there. A comb is pretty unnecessary so I finger detangle with a nice creamy leave in. And I use protein to sttengthen. good luck!
