Be Honest, Naturals: What Hair Type Do You Want...

to be uniform? In other words, as my hair grows, I have discovered that I have anywhere from 3 to 4 different types of hair all over my head. The front is almost like a 2b. The sides are 3c/4a. The crown is 4a. The back is a combination of 3c/4a/4b. These types change as my hair grows out.

The only problem I have with it is that it's difficult to maintain style at times unless I do a twist out. If I leave my hair out with only leave-in, the sides shrivel up, the the front is long and almost straight. The back is curly and wavy, with some frizz and puffiness.

I found myself wishing that I had one type of hair all over my head instead of so many different combinations.

Do you ladies sometimes wish that you had all one type. If so, what type do you prefer? I prefer to have type 4a all over. I'll accept shrinkage if it's uniform all over instead of just on the sides and crown...

i would want all of my hair to be a 3b
smile.gif

hmmm prolly all 3b texture so all the curls on my head would be uniform. Plus I can always make my hair look like a 4a texture by just simply combing it out

.

I dont know, I think am the same 2/4ab, I think its maybe because I dont pay attention the the middle of my hair that much, and I just come out the front and back and the center not much is done too it, I dont want 2 it confusing, I want my hair to be healthy non frizzy and thick soft and silky

Why as a relaxed person would you choose 4b?

The front of my hair is the weirdest. That's the Type 2 hair. So late last year, my hair goal what to get the front [my bangs] to reach my nose. Once it reached my nose, I wanted it to get to my top lip. Well, it got to the top lip. So then I wanted to be able to eat it if I wanted to. Well, my hair grew and my bangs can now be inside of my mouth. So once again I altered my goals so that the hair could reach my chin. Well, now I have bangs that reach my chin. The weird thing is that the since the sides and crown shrink so much, my hair is shaped funny. The front is nearly straight. The sides are shriveled up, and the crown shrinks to no end. [I wish I had a camera to show ya'll pics.] Anyway, it would be terrific if I had one type all over my head, preferably 3c or 4a. It's just weird. The front is growing so fast but the crown and sides are lingering...

I DO think that types 1 and 2 grow faster than 3 and 4. I truly believe that that's the case as far as I am concerned...

Because it breaks down easier with a relaxer as opposed to my 4a hair which takes forever and my 2a hair that burns up with the relaxer. I also think it is easier to gain and retain length with it relaxed (once again due to strand uniformity), than other textures when relaxed.

I think many people believe that 4a and 4b hair is thicker. That's why I want 4a all over because my hair is VERY fine, so it appears thin. It's not thin at all, but it appears thin because it's so fine. I would like to have 4a because it'll appear thicker. For example, the front is 2a/b, the sides are 3c/4a. The sides appear a lot thicker than the front, which is almost wavy/straight.

Hmmm, I'd like to answer but I'm not even sure what my hair types are yet! lol I know I have a looser curl pattern in the crown and back of my head and a kinkier pattern on the sides above the ear and in the kitchen area. I must say I don't really have a preference - it would be nice if it were just all of one or all of the other!

4a or 4b...i am mostly 4a with some 3c areas in the back and it works my last NERVE! twists wont hold...braids wont hold..just does its own thing with that looser curl texture.

My hair is coarse on top & fine at the nape and sometimes I wish it was reversed so I could wear my in a wedge shape. The top won't lye down for nothin'. Then again I might be grateful to have thicker hair on top when I get old.
smirk.gif

All in all I've grown used to my own hair and I wouldn't want to change anything that I'd have to re-learn at this point!

I would have to say 3b/3c b/c those curls spirals the nicest.
smile.gif
I love my 4a section in the middle b/c it's strong (great growth in this area when I was relaxed), but as that section grows out, it's the hardest to detangle in its natural state.

When I was natural, I did the BC after 3 months. My hair looked uniform 4a, my fro was so cute
smile.gif
. Then when it started growing, I had type 2 hair growing on the side, at the nape, in the back, my hair was confused, I didn't know what to think. After three years as a natural, I woke up one day, and my hair was like type 3 all over....then I was really really confused
frown.gif
. I shelled out $100 to a natural haircare specialist in brooklyn who explained that the braids messed the texture of my hair and that's why it was changing like that?????
ohwell.gif

I finally just left it alone after awhile and it stayed at type 3 and grew my past shoulders. Then I relaxed and lost it all (that's another story)

I wouldnt mind a uniform 3b/c which is what most of my head is. However, I have this one patch (around 2 inches) of 4a hair right in the FRONT of my head that sticks straight up while the rest is laying down. The two textures are obvious, too.

Personally I have no hair type preference for my hair. There are at least three different hair textures (3c, 4a, and 4b) on my head and I'm very comfortable with all of them.

that's amazing - my hair type is so close to yours!!

My front usually gets on my nerves b/c it doesn't twist up like the tighter sections of my hair!! It's 2b type

I think I would prefer the 3c sections of my hair

Maybe I should be grateful for thicker hair at the crown. My mother still has thick hair even though she relaxes. Her hair is thickest at the crown. So, I guess you're right. I need to stop complaining...

Oh, my goodness, Chanou. I didn't know this happened to you! I'm sorry, girl!

I think you're right, though. As the hair continues to grow out, the textures will change. My hair at the nape was a lot more coarse when I had TWA. Now it just hangs down like a got a jheri curl. In fact, I get so tired of people believing that I have a texturizer or a jheri curl. It's embarrassing to have a jheri curl. Anyway, I think you're right. My hair texture is continuing to change. Some say that when you are natural and you straighten, it changes the bonds in the hair, so you'll have straighter hair in the long run.

Well it's not a type, cause i have the same type as this person but i want Her Hair the exact length the exact thickness the exact everything.....sigh------ okay i'm finished my hair envy party

Re: Be Honest, Naturals: What Hair Type Do You Wan

my hair has stayed the same since the first inch of natural hair that came out of my head, its wild , no uniform patterns, curls , waves or anything, really just one big poof ball , but becomes something else once wetness and/or products are applied and i comb it all out and brush it down. then it just curls and waves all up. so this leaves with my best styling option being the slicked back look. so i guess my wish would be my hair would have and more importantly "keep" all the definition while out loose, without product overload to get it that way, cause then i would have product everywhere , all over my clothes, neck and back ugh.

also my hair type and pattern has stayed the same no matter how many times i press, and whew im thankfull for that too

i do have almost type 1 or 2 hair on its own (with no products) with the hair behind my both of my ears (weird) ...also my daughter has the same hair type all throughout her head, but the top/front edges are a whole other hair type....leaving her with waves/curls (like me with products) and a lions mane all around the front edges lol

Re: Be Honest, Naturals: What Hair Type Do You Wan

My actual hair type is great- I just wish I had greater thickness/number of hairs on my head. My SIL has incredibly thick hair and her twists are so full and thick they are to die for.

When I first became natural I really wished for 4b hair but now I'm happy and love my 4a just as it is.
