Why is my hair resisting haircolor?????

Now that I have achieved/maintained phenomenal length (btw: thanks everyone, for 2 years of advice), I would love to accent it with a lighter shade. In the last 2 months, I've tried 2xs to lighten my naturally dark brown hair to an auburn, with no success. I'll get that shine & silkiness, but literally no color. I'm unwilling to leave the color mixture on longer than the recommended 20 minutes for my relaxed hair (African Pride/no lye). Is it possible that my hair is resistant to coloring?? I'd appreciate advice from the color experts on the board. Thanks so much!

You may need a booster. My hair is like yours, super resistant.

There are two of these threads so I'll ask here...

Karonica do you know yet how to make a booster when it doesn't come in the pack?

Nope. I tried hunting for it in the BSS, but was unsuccessful. I've tried questioning hair stylists, but they just say, "It's a lightening product."

I HATE that....

I think I might need one but I don't want to use it with a blond...and I don't even know if it WORKS if you aren't going blond....

Do you know?

I'm clueless.

I may be doing the roots soon, so I'll question this person who'll do them. Hairdressers are of no help.
