i would like to see some of pics of y'all, too. i am starting at SL and my goal length is BSL. it is so motivating to me to actually see people who started at my same length and are now at my goal length. i have been looking at lot at delta_gyrl's pics for motivation.

@LocksOfLuV: you grew your hair out to BSL in less than a year? is that the "standard" time frame when going from SL to BSL?

how long did it take those who started at SL to reach BSL?

yes, i want to reiterate, please post some pics ladies, it gets discouraging when you are just starting out and some comparison shots would definitely help in the journey. TIA!

Well Is started my hair journey in 11/05 which I started out like this.
Sept28MizanitextureofSE-1.jpg

But it wasn't until April 2006, when I got SERIOUS and stopped using heat and started baggying etc.

By September 2006, my V made BSL (which is less than a year later actually):

Now my hair has and still is improving from that pic. Bt it goes to show you you can make BSL if you put your mind to it.

Her eis the most recent down pic I have from feb 07 (sorry such a blurry pic)
Feb07Hair-1.jpg
( I relax this weekend so I may update this thread afterwards).

All I did was, stay away from heat (blow dryers and flat irons). Deep conditioned atleast once a week. Baggied my ends. Stretched my relaxers. And no daily combing except on wash day.

My hair grows at the very average rate of 5-6 inches a year. It's all about retaining them.

OMG, Locks, I didn't realize that your journey was so inspirational! I saw the pics in your siggy, but couldn't really gauge your "true" length. I love to hear - better yet SEE - stories like yours. In your most recent pic, your hair looks like it is getting close to WL!!! It is also good for me to know when people who started out SL (like me) and utilize the same regimen as I am. SO INSPIRING!!! Thank you SO much for sharing!

And I am like some of the others, when I reach my goals, I will DEF be showing it. Because to me, seeing is believing. It is really nice to see people with WL hair, but if they started at BSL, I really can't look to them for inspiration because, I, personally have never had hair that long (BSL) and I don't want to set unrealistic hair goals for myself...

OK, I've said enough! Thanks again Locks!

Thank you  and your welcome and YOU can do it! Keep that regimen healthy and it's smooth sailing from there. :yep: I can still use some improvements and I am learning just about every day here too. We are all in it together.:)

I wash indeed a picky headed child with severly damaged hair. And on my jouney I have had many setbacks. I just had to cut off a lot of length because I slacked for about a yr. I should be at BSL by now but my mind was on other things. I'm back now. If I can get a hold to a scanner I will post a pick of my in 9th grade. Can you say chicken head. It was horrible.

thank you longhairluva, for sharing, it is amazing what a consitent regimen can produce. i cannot wait for 12 mos to pass to see where i am.

thanks for sharing, another inspiration! :)

Whip I keep forgetting you are a natural, that is some serious flat ironing skills right there. My problem even as a relaxed head is getting the naps right at the scalp....I hate that with a passion.

senimoni, you look BSL to me  your hair is looking fabulous! thank, you, too, for sharing and inspiring us who are "LONGING" to have longer hair!

ETA: i put MY start pic in my avatar...sorry ladies, i don't know how to resize it for my siggy...

Re: Why haven't we compiled a picture of ladies starting with shoulder length of shor

Don't know if I will inspire but here are mine from a strictly naturally kinky coily point of view. ;)

AprilComparisons-2.jpg

This was about two weeks ago.
BSL50707.jpg

Also in my siggy are some comparison shots.

My advice is to guard those ends like a jealous lover!
Baby those ends like the spoiled princess that they are!
Keep them satisfied like a baby finishing the WONDER TONIC!:lachen:
I know some people will trim or cut their ends but I have only dusted my ends since early 2000.

Protect, protect, protect at all cost. It is the longest, oldest, and in my opinion weakest hair of all and when it is gone it is gone.

In my case it is also my toughest enemy like a gangster guarding its territory so I have to outwit them when I need to comb them, dust them, or nourish them.:D

Okay I guess I have used enough colorful imagination to get my point across.:look:

Grow ladies grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Why haven't we compiled a picture of ladies starting with shoulder length of shor

When I first starting lurking my hair was around sl with kinda burnt looking ends. I lurked and took a few pointers for 4-6 months and my hair grew a bit and looked a lot fuller and healthier. Here's me 6 months after discovering LHCF and a couple months after deciding to transition. I was so excited about my progress, just cheesin' and swingin'. I was hoping that the advice here could get me to armpit length which was the goal I'd always wanted for years...

it took me a little over a year to get full BSL...

here's my hair now, 3 years after deciding to try out what the crazy hair ladies were saying  ...

co-signing with above, protecting my ends made a huge difference, plus cutting out weekly heat, using different combs and brushes, and changing up some of my products and habits

Yes I don't understand why people are ashamed of their starting pics,if anything that proves that they were able to turn their hair around and have the hair game down to a t.

I do feel really good about what I have accomplished but I know I could not have done this with without all of you reaching out to educate and share you wisdom. What I have is because of what all of you have unselfishly shared.

Believe it or not I was in a class tonight and the lady next to me asked me about my hair and how I could coil it so tight. I was doing a protective style so I had one of my girlfriends on tonight (check site to see my favorite called jetta) anyway she was shocked that it was a wig and then I started telling her about LHCF and we talked for more than 30 minutes after the meeting. She could not believe all the stuff I was telling her. I had to limit myself, because you know how we do when someone will sit still for 5 minutes and let us talk about hair!:D

My sister and neice were really surprised when I did the picture the other day and my mother just shakes her head and says, look at all that hair. I have not seen folks in a while so I want to have a natural hairstyle for my wedding coming up and I want SHOCK AND AWE!:eek::eek::eek:

Not only for my dress but for my hair also. Still trying to decide what to do with it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I think some people don't like to admit that they were pick headed as a child/adolescent. A true inspiration to me is someone starting from very short damaged and progressing to APL or longer.

ITA, I LOVE seeing all the ladies progress, but when i read/see that they had long hair when they were young/growing up it doesn't inspire me as much, simply because they've had it before. However i love seeing them damaged/breaking/never gotten past 8 inches (if that) dry head of hair they is now long and healthy. I can't wait until i am one of those with long hair, to show people it can be done...my hairhas always been thick but NEVER been long, and now that im bald...i can truly show a before and after

Oh yeah, people think your are crazy for "not having your hair donw" and all sorts of things but once you start seeing that progress, they are all over you asking questions. It's kind of funny.

But my SO and my sister are my best friends and they are very supportive. I even got my sister into haircare too!
