I was at longhaircarelovers ... something like that, and there was a lunar chart, that had suggestions as to when one should trim and have chemical services performed.

1. Has or does anyone follow this?

2. Have you Noticed a difference?

3. What encouraged you to do this?

My sister met a lady at Sallys who said that her granddaughter grew her hair really long by brushing it on the eve of the full moon or something like that. I was like
ohwell.gif
Then I found that same chart, and was like, hm, maybe there was something to it. Ballet Bun, did you read the other articles there about George Michael. Some of his tips just didn't sound right to me. But he's the expert, not me.

No, I didn't read any of his articles. Well, I down loaded some, but I don't rememeber who they were written by. I'll have to go back to the website and take a look.

Are you giving the "Lunar" thing a try then, or considerint it?

Ballet Bun,

I figure why the heck not. But shhhh....I'll never admit to it.

Okay, I'll admit to it. I read the article about why it's supposed to work, but I don't know. As long as it doesn't make me LOSE hair, then I'll try it. Are you going to try it?

Am I going to try it ... You better believe it! It's worth a try. Just out of curiosity... are you natural or relaxed? What kind of regimen do you follow. Can you tell I'm curious now ... lol! HOw closey will you follow it? I was thinking of trying this for 6 - 12 months. What about you?

I was going to hold of on my relaxer, and go according to the chart, but I don't know if I can wait that long now. Actually, it's only 3 weeks past my 3 month mark. Maybe I will wait.

My hair is relaxed. Just got a touch up, and I am finally, FINALLY at bra-strap length. I'm gonna do some research and see if I can find more about brushing hair on the lunar cycle. And I'm gonna print and read that moon maintenance article from longhairlovers.com, and make up a plan. This could be fun.

If I find any more info, I'll post the links.

Should we have our own little Lunar Challenge ... lol! I think I'll go take a look at these articles now too.

OK ... I'm in!!!! Here's a website that might interest you . They have a Lunar Calender, but I think it's in Eastern Standard Time. I have a good book on the subject, but it doesn't talk a lot about hair.

http://www.aquarius-atlanta.com/moon.shtml

I also have a special datebook that includes this information. It's really nice.

Thanks.

What's the title of your book? Maybe I'll go to the library in the next few days and see what they have on the topic. It will be really interesting to find out if there's any truth to the theory. If not, well, at least we'll know a little more about lunar cycles in general.

It's called "Moonwise" by Daniel Pharr. There's much debate as to whether or not this stuff is true. There always going to be someone who says "yeh" or Neh" ... lol!

How funny ... 2 pages already and we are the only 2 ones in this thread ... lol!

Given my screen name and my interest in metaphysiscs, I should know more about this. But all I recall is my grandmother saying that one should trim/cut their hair on the NEW moon (growing phase). When you consider that women, the tides, and the moon all follow a 28 day cycle, tis is not too ridiculous to believe. I will check in some of my books and get back to ya...

Here are a few:
hairboutique.com/tips/tip001.htm
In Karen Shelton’s 1997 article, she relays info. about her experience using the moon phases to grow her hair. She says, “I personally have spent over 15 years experimenting with the moon and recording the results. I have no doubt in my mind that using the phases of the Moon for growing your hair works. I have personally used the theory and have experienced measurable results.”

Well, the full moon is coming up Oct. 10th... I like the idea of a Lunar Challenge - I'm in!. I think there is something to this.

By the way, the root days mentioned in one of the links might be perfect for relaxer retouch days.

I last trimmed my hair on a full moon and i swear it went on a growth spurt. Although my hair grows quite fast anyway but from now on I will only trim it on full moons and will be doing so again in a few days. I think that it is a very healthy thing to do and I believe in the connection between the moon and womens bodies.
(somebody had commented that my hair had grown and so I told them I cut it on a full moon and as a recently converted muslim they became very offended and said that it is paganistic. so be careful who you tell ha ha. Everyone else just thinks i'm joking or i'm nuts...not that i care

Did it grow longer or thicker? I think I remember reading that trimming on the full moon made it thick...

Isis:

Which day would be good for a touch-up? The chart at longhairlovers suggests that Leo and Taurus are good moons for colouring, permiing and straightening. However the maintenence plan suggests that the Cancer, Scorpio and possibly the Pices Moon would be good for such things.

Anyone else have any input on this one? I'm due for a touch-up soon, and would like to do it according to the moon.

Anikalia:

Thanks for the links. I really like the first one!

Lunallight:
Let us know what you find pu. If you have any good reference books, could you list a few titles for us, please. I'm always looking to add to my collection. I'm interested in the Metaphysics too!

Everyone:

Is there anything about days to wash ... so far this seems to be optional... I mean when ever you want to do it. However, the Virgo Moon seems to be the time to Clarify.

I would like to be a part of this too. I'm confused because one of the charts said that Oct 10th was a day to retard growth, but it is a full moon. I was planning on giving myself a slight trim that day (yes ladies, ever since my last trim i've beenin love with my blunt cut!).

so is a full moon the ideal time to trim always? Or should i consult the dates on the cahrt for this one?

Beana, I looked at the online chart last night, and I noticed that some of the info. may be wrong. (Like the article says not to trim when the moon is in Aries, but the chart had a trim listed for that time.) I'm going to use the general guidelines from the moon maintenance article in conjunction with another listing of moon phases and come up with my own plan.

I printed out most of the info in the links.. I'll hold off on my trim on oct 10th (the moon will be in Aries) and postpone it to either Oct 25th or Nov 8th.

Well, some of it has to do with which sign the moon is in. Each one of the 12 Moon Signs has it's own energy or properties condusive to the success of various activities. I'm going to do a little more research before answering this one ... ANYONE ELSE WANNA TAKE A SHOT AT THIS ONE?

my book"MoonWise" by Daniel Pharr says that the Waning Moon
is the best time for haircuts. On October 10th the moon is in Taurus. It says that it is a good day for enhancing your appearance, such as choosing a new haitstyle, but unfortunately it doesn't say much else in the way of haircare.

It states that the Cancer Moon is good for changing your outward appearance. The examples listed are changing your hair clolour or getting a perm.

The book says that the Aquarius Moon is good for chemically treating the hair. However, this goes against the article at longhairlovers. I should try e-mailing the author of those articles! I'd like another Moon book that discusses beauty abd selfcare a little more.

Opps, you're right ...the moon is in Aries that day, not taurus!!!!

I'm almost ready to jumb on the bandwagon but I need to clarify something first. Is this strategy implying that I have to trim my hair in order for it to grow? What if I just put more emphasis on my OTHER hair growth techniques around those phases of the lunar cycle, can/will that work
look.gif
?

I think that it's saying, IF you are going to trim or cut you hair and you want to achieve maximun growth, that you should do it by the cycles of the moon most optimal for growth. That's just my take on it.

Where's Lunalight7 ... HELP ... PLEASE ... lol
