Just wana know. I know of two members who do so far. I have been doing this a few days and so far I like it!!! My hair has never had so much bling and is moisturized. I dont see how folks argue it doesnt moisturize since it penetrates and is fatty! Aren't we supposed to be looking for fats for moisture:look:?

But yeah, who uses it to moisturize?

Hmmm I don't know it as a moisturiser, and most fats are oils really with some moisturising properties (in the fact that they also contain a very small amount of water). But I think largely it would be an 'oil'.

I used it for the first time this week in my hair, after my hair was wet and moisturised with water and it was great! I love it! Its great for my skin too.

I use it as a moisturizer, but they say its protein. I dont use it everyday or anything, just weekly when I am doing my cornrows so I can put on my LF.

I started using it everyday as moisturizer a few weeks ago and i LOVE it. I never thought to use it this way and it had been sitting under the sink for a month or so.

What type of coconut oil are you guys using? I almost bought the Louana at the grocery store but decided not to, as my sigy says I'm trying to use up what I've already got. :(

Maybe I'll try it this way!
I just went and bought some mango butter (last time I used it, I ended up using it as a gel, believe it or not, it's that heavy). Since the cold has now come to NYC, I'll use it to protect my hair...

I bought a bottle of Parachute at an Indian store. My sister bought a large jar of coconut oil at Whole Foods.

I use it daily!! I'm natural and I use it on my twists, cornrows, whatever! I also use it as a pre-poo.

I saw the Louana at WallyWorld, but I usually get the unrefined kind that is located on the vitamin aisle. There is a price difference. The unrefined one is $9.99. I was looking online the other day to see if there was a big difference between the two. I didn't find any info.

ME! i loooooove this on flat ironed hair, and it's really good on WNGS and skin

i use the spectrum brand - comes in a big jar for $7.99. i got this jar in september and i think it will last AT LEAST till february or so.

I often use coconut oil as my only leave-in. Now that I'm in twists and have washed, that's all that's really on my hair. Well, that and castor oil on the ends.

coconut oil is great.
Most of the products i use have some coconut oil in it...
I sometimes use it to pre-poo overnight...

I do. It's great for me.

If you search coconut oil, in one of the many threads there was a study posted about it. The study showed that coconut oil actually penetrates the strand and it helps to stop protein loss from hair strands.

I braid my hair with coconut oil. My hair gets detangled best when I saturate my wet hair with it and then detangle with a comb. And I rinse my hair everyday and add coconut oil in the morning and evening (I do it twice a day because it gets absorbed).

I think it might be the best thing I've learned about from this board.

I use the Vatika Oil (which is coconut based) It really defines waves in my wet buns, and I use it on my flat ironed hair to help seal moisture and keep my hair pliable. And it makes your hair so SHINY

So you guys are not using any water based leave in.

I like to apply it to Damp hair - so the water acts as a moisturizer and the coconut oil seals it. On flat ironed hair, I lightly mist with my glycerine/aloe/water mix ( if you just mist veeeeeeeeery lightly, it makes your hair slick as opposed to frizzy or reverted) and then I seal that with coconut oil. I like to do it at night b/f I pincurl b/c it helps hold the curl as it dries. HTH

I love Vatika~ I just went and bought another bottle yesterday just to have in case.

That's all I use now. I use Vatika oil (mix of coconut and some other herbs on my scalp), and regular coconut oil (or organix coconut milk serum) on my ends or throughout my hair.

I used it everyday to seal my hair after i cowash. What I notice is that its turning my hair very dark, which i like...its dark & shinny. Have anyone else notice that effect from using coconut oil?

i used to use it as a sealant but then i met and fell in love with cocasta oil lol. i never used it as a moisturizer but that is an experiment for me to do for the next week until i wash again. so tonight i will moisturize with the oil and see what im working with in the morning.

I used to use coconut oil as a sealent but I always ended up with broken hairs. I love the smell so I just apply it to my new growth (when I remember).

How did your experiment go?
