I'm tired of using conditioners to moisturize my hair from day to day. The only way conditioner seems to penetrate my hair is if I dampen my hair, and since I'm busy througout the day the only time I can do this is at night, and I HATE going to bed with wet hair *End of Rant*. How many people use coconut oil, or other penetrable oils, as moisturizers between washes? If so, how are you liking it? I posted a link to an article I read about it.

I do this if I have a rollerset that I want to last. I find that I do not need any moisturizers for a few days if I use my beloved coconut oil. But for me, it will only last but for so long without moisturizer.

I find that using coconut oil on a daily basis is too heavy for my fine hair, but I'm really liking it as a pre-poo on wash day.

if i'm not prepooing, i really only use coconut oil for shine or to oil my scalp. after a few days of usng coconut oil, it can start to smell a bit rancid on my hair. when i have a straight style i want to last, i use a serum with silicones n it 1x per day.

It's an excellent moisturizer, but your hair will be very limp if you use it every day, or even every other day. A couple of times a week should do, just be light with the application.

I use it daily when I am rocking my braidouts. I let it melt in my hands and apply it directly to my hair as I braid it. I don't use it as much when I have flat ironed my hair.

Girl I posted a thread just like this a little while ago!! I wanted to know if I just had to use a moisturizer! I hate them. they weigh my hair down.. and make it look wet.. I havent found a good one yet! But I use coconut oil and i looooooooooooove it!! I use vatika. it makes my hair look and feel good!!! I think I'm gonna see if my hair can survive with only using it!

Too much evco makes my hair soft. Too soft if used on dry hair. I usually use it on my ng and roots when flat ironing since it needs alot more moisture than protein. But never on my ends (unless i'm DC'ing).

I usually use coconut oil as a pre-poo treatment. Sometimes, i'll mix some with castor oil to seal my moisturizer. Have you tried castor oil? using this to seal my moisturizers on dry or damp hair, or even by itself has worked wonders for me :yep:

It's the only thing I use between wash days :yep: Lightly mist my hair with water, then a little coconut oil.

I DC 2x a week though, keeps my moisture level up.

I too think it would be too heavy and my hair is not fine/thin and it is too heavy for mine. Someone recommended Elasta QP Mango Butter and I used it for the first time last night before pin curling my hair....OMG!!! it is awesome!!! It did not weigh my hair down, my hair was still bouncy, still had body, etc. I love it!

(wish I could thank them but I don't remember - I will be searching and looking for you today tho cuz you deserve the thanks!!)

I use a little bit every other day. I've challenged myself to make it the only after-wash product I use in my hair. It's been a couple weeks and so far, so good. Since, my hair has been really moisturized and soft, and I just make sure not to use too much, because even though my hair is thick in volume, it is very fine.

I am using coconut oil to moisturize my hair daily, but only because I am waiting on Black Friday to purchase a new moisturizer. It's actually really good. My natural hair feels nice and soft, not heavy at all. I just have to be careful to apply a very small amount. My hair is fine.

i use it more or less everyday the texture of my natural hair is very soft i haven't had any problems with stretching due to 2 different textures etc

I find the longer you use it the more benefit you get from it :yep:

Haha:lachen:, funny story... I applied coconut oil to my very dry hair with no water knowing how wonderful the stuff is. Well, my hair was so hard and crunchy I thought I was touching some ashy hay:nono:
Long story short, I man handled my hair into some braids an the next day when I took out the braids my hair was soft:look:.
Moral of the story is dont expect coconut oil to initially make hair soft, now shea butter:lick:

I love the way my hair smells and my hair stays clean even though I'm braided under a weave. Maybe you should try cooking grade extra virgin coconut oil, that has less oder and will not get rancid. hth

If braiding or bunniing or ponytail I use a good amount to saturating my scalp and hair. If I'm wearing my hair down a little bit is all I need. But it's a very good oil.

Did you step outside into cold weather? Or get near somewhere where it was cool? I have noticed that when I go for my morning cardio outdoors. But when I arrive back indoors it is very soft. Personally,my hair has no problems because of it.

Just started using it daily after I wet my hair. It really makes my hair soft. I especially like it with my twistouts.

I use coconut oil daily quite often. I love it because its light and pentrates my hair really well and i still have lots of movement and swing left even after days of use. I use nutiva brand.

I thought I posted a reply on this thread, lol. But I think it was another thread with a similar topic. Anywho, I use coconut oil everyday on my texlaxed hair and I love it! I apply it in between washes or when my hair feels a little dry. I apply to dry hair and put my hair up in a bear claw then take a hot steamy shower and when I come out my hair is easy to manage. It makes my new growth extremely easy to deal and if I do a braid out my hair is soft and moisturized all day. And best thing about it is my hair doesn't feel greasy.

Haha, I live in Florida, it's barely ever cold:ohwell:

coconut oil saved me from loathing my ends. They were dry and frizzy but I can see a turnaround now. I plan apply faithfully to my ends every night.

All I know is that some of the best heads of hair I've ever seen use coconut oil on the regular. (ahem Irris) so I'm sold on it
