who thinks their natural journey.....

so when you made the transition from relaxed to natural was it easy or hard?
did you have a melt down?
did you regret it?
how long did it take you to find work works for you?

It was relatively easy for me; I transitioned for 10 months. No melt downs and no regrets. But I'm not going to lie, there were a couple bad, frustrating hair days. LOL. Overall, though, transitioning was not difficult and I was able to retain my relaxed ends (little to no breakage) too. It took me a few months to figure out what worked for me.

It really was not a transition for me...I was actually "stretching" my relaxer successfully for about 26 weeks --The stretch was good no breakage but I was stretching damaged, split riddled thin hair. I did the BC and did notmlook back. :)
did you have a melt down?
No melt down here---now if I had WL hair and BC'ed to a TWA things might be a little different. lol.
did you regret it?
I do not miss my damaged hair...this is a new page for me and I am enjoying it.

Hmmm...I am still looking for more Natural/Ayurvedic practices to aid in strength and moisture. Im Hoping by the end of this Year I would have the opportunity to stick with a regimen that works for me. :)

I've been transitioning for 79 weeks. It's been pretty easy. I expect to be relaxer free on / before October 2009 (two year transitioning mark). I didn't have a melt down. I don't regret it one bit.

It was easy for me. 6 month transition & i've been froin' & flowin' since. No melt downs! i've had an awesome support system...most women in my family are natural :)
I'm still finding what works for me because as my hair grows it's needs seem to change ever so slightly... For the most part I KISS with an oil & water routine.

I didn't transition. Well, not really, I relaxed my hair 2-3 times a year anyway. I haven't had any emotional issues over my hair. BUT then again, I never had them when I was relaxed. A bad hair day never broke me and a bad cut never really affected me, I would just fix it and move on. It would be totally different if my hair fell out because of illness or something, but, I have enjoyed my hair journey over all.

so when you made the transition from relaxed to natural was it easy or hard? Pretty easy.

did you have a melt down? No.

did you regret it? No.

I'm still looking, my hair seems to evolve every few months and I have to try something new. What worked for me at 2" doesn't work for me at bra strap. What worked at brastrap, never worked for me at mid-back. Probably why I'm back at bra-strap.

so when you made the transition from relaxed to natural was it easy or hard? Transition was easy because I hid my hair for many years in weaving and wigs.

did you have a melt down? Sort of I have had two major surgeries during my natural journey and they both had a huge effect on my hair growth and overall health of hair.

did you regret it? Do not regret making the change, but am now having to make another mental transition in not using any type of fake hair to help with my journey. I am giving away my wigs and most of my extension hair. Keeping just two items and only using those when I am not in crutch mode only the idea of just want a different style. (I won't lie this one is a bear!)

how long did it take you to find work works for you? About a year or so into my real change to dedicate myself to no longer using heat on my hair.

I have to say I went in phases of adjusting to natural hair. Phase 1 was no longer putting relaxer in my hair but I still wanted straight hair at all times so that was a shift because I used weaves and pressing. Phase 2 was no more heat so I had to come out of the straight weaves all together and then decided no more weaves that took about two years. Phase 3 I am in that one now because I am trying to wear my own hair with no additional hair. Each one of these had to do with making a mental shift and really getting to the core of why I was doing what I was doing.

I know for many it may not be that big a deal but for me and the type of work I do and some of the major life changes I had in the past 7 years it required some work on my part.

I have no problem with using fake hair if that is what I want but I don't want that to be a crutch and for me in the past that is exactly what it has been. I think the styles you can do with them are wonderful and you can get very creative but again, I want to use fake hair for styling and creativity and yes sometimes probably for conveience but not as a crutch because I don't know what to do with my own natural hair in its natural state. :yep:

I think mines was fairly easy. I tried a lot of styles that worked best for both textures.
