I wash my hair once a week and when I detangle it's not much hair I'm losing just alil bit, my girlfriend who's relaxed asked me how much I loose and compare to what she told me she looses way more hair when she combs her hair but her hair is full and healthy so does relax loose more hair than naturals or the other way around? what's your views on this?

I don't think it matters too much whether one is natural or relaxed. I think the detangling tools, technique, and products used make more of a difference. I'm just now figuring out how to detangle my hair with minimal hair loss.

I think, overall, that PREVENTION is the key. Try to keep your hair from getting horribly tangled in the first place. Also, detangling in the shower, with condish on the hair, works for just about anybody.

I probably loose more hair as a natural, honestly. I have always been a shedder though. When I would blowdry my relaxed hair, I would shed quite a bit, but I rarely touched my hair. I do my own hair as a natural, so I see the shed hair daily.

Also, I probably appear to loose more hair than I really do because of the curly strands.

I used to think that I lost more hair as a natural, but since I've been properly caring for my hair with good products and moisture, I've been barely losing any hair between when I detangle with conditioner. Before I used to lose hair all week up until I washed. I think that I've lessened the breakage.

true shed hair i would guess would be about the same for relaxed or natural. a lot of the hair i used to see when detangling as a permie was broken-off hairs, not shed hairs. but i had bad habits back then so... :look:

i bet if i was to compare the amount of hair i lost daily during brushing/combing when relaxed, and the amount of hair i lose weekly during detangling as a natural, they'd pretty much even out.

i was natural up to 8 months ago, now im relaxed. honestly i dont see a difference. being natural was frustrating for me but i can honestly say i NEVER had a problem detangling. and i have coarse 4b hair. i never understood how naturals have problems detangling. i would do it in 4 sections while my hair was wet with a big tooth comb and it was easy as pie. now styling my hair was a different story:ohwell:

I agree with this.

Not sure...I pretty much always got my hair washed at the salon when I was relaxed. Since I am about 80% natural and 20% relaxed, I wash my own hair. Now I lose a considerable amount since I don't comb throughout the week.

I wash and detangle my hair with conditioner once a week and I don't get a lot of shedding. When I was relaxed, I would do the same and I lost more hair even when I was very careful. It was probably a lot of breakage.

I agree.

I think that I lose a lot more hair now when I detangle, to be honest. I didn't use to lose as much hair when I was relaxed at all, especially when I was freshly relaxed. Having said that, I also used to comb my hair every day (as opposed to once a week now), so there was not much room for tangles. But I have to say, it's getting much better now, since I have started doing protein treatments.
The shedding, however, has stayed the same.

i lost twice as much hair as a natural. now, relaxed, the comb slips through. i have fragile hair. so the straighter it is, the less resistance it gives the comb. it's sad to say bu the only way for me to have healthy LONG hair unless it is in twists or braids the entire time is to relax it.
