White women's reaction to my hair

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I thought I'd get some advice on my experiences as a black woman with long hair. Im 21 years old. I happen to be darkskinned, around Keshia Knight Pulliam/Gabrielle Union complexion with very long hair. In my area, its not common to see black women regardless of complexion wearing her own hair, most of us are weaved up.

This past weekend when I was at the grocery market, I was at the self checkout lane when I happened to feel a presence behind me. I turned around and there was a white, middle aged woman, around 50+ literally just STARING at me as I checked myself out. Just standing behind me, staring. Creepy. Rude. I ignored her, didn't want to cause a scene. Usually I wear my hair in a ponytail but this day I decided to wear it down. My hair is quite long. I dont know if she was just admiring my hair or what. But i find it very rude to stand behind a customer and just stare at them. I have observed that older white women in this age group tend to stare and follow me around clothing/department stores a lot. When my hair was shorter, or when I wore weaves they were not quite as obvious about it. I swear I never got followed around but now that my hair has grown very long I've become a target. I also notice that I attract white guys more often. Black guys don't really approach me they just stare and keep walking. Some of them act very intimidated by me now

Not falling for it this time. :nono::nono:

I'll just sit and wait.

RocStar, if I didn't read your post I would have given my heartfelt opinion. Thanks! A sucker is born every minute. That sucker is me. LOL!

Wow I wasn't expecting this type of response. I came here thinking most of you would understand since this is the LHCF for black women. A waste of membership money. I certainly wouldn't pay my money just to troll a message board forum

I'm new here. I didn't know where else to post it

Maybe the mods can move this to the hair thread.

Just curious, what opinion were you hoping to get? I don't receive any negative responses from people when I leave my hair out. I get stares but black men don't ignore me, nobody thinks I'm stealing.

Oh and welcome!

Black men don't ignore me either. They look and stare at me a lot

Its free to post in the actual hair section, isnt it? All you have to do is just register.....

<slides hand under glass window to grab purchased ticket...buys nachos and water, takes a seat>

I dont know. I'm asking for opinions. She was standing behind me the entire time i was checking out. I never had anyone do that before

That's my point, you're assuming she was staring you down and other people are following you around because of your hair....how do these people's actions correlate to you having long hair?
I'm not saying it's not the reason but it could be 10,000 other reasons...why don't you just ask one of them?

I'm not a confrontational person. I just thought it was weird she was standing behind me the entire time while I was in the checkout lane. I just came here for advice and not to be put on trial and given the third degree

How long is your hair? Can we see a picture?

Sorry you're not feeling welcome. Try posting a new thread in the hair forum introducing yourself.

You mentioned your hair was long three times, I want to see it! (not being snarky). Just how long is your hair?

And, you never know, she may have been staring out of admiration. Or jealousy.

Hi OP, it's difficult to give an opinion on this, because it could be a variety of factors.
Sometimes we are hyper aware of one of our attributes and think other people are reacting to it, when they might not be-- necessarily. Happens when people lose or gain a lot of weight, grow or cut their hair dramatically, or really any other reason that you're acutely proud or ashamed of. Sounds like you take a lot of pride in having very long hair. That's great, bc it is an accomplishment. Don't let it have you thinking that others are sizing you up for that reason. Unless they actually say something, it could be so many factors, none of which are worth dedicating too much mental energy deciphering.

Well, good luck and welcome!

 I was thinking the same thing. You didn't even describe the length of your hair. A pic would be nice, but at least a description is needed.

She was staring at you because you're black.

Now that that's settled... Tell us about your hair! How long is it? Are you natural? What's your reggie? Got any picccs??

:look:
