I'm not exactly sure how to explain this but my boyfriend held up a stand of my hair to the light. He says it has different transparency along the shaft. It looks dark brown and then lighter almost white in some spots. I'm not sure what this is. We pulled another strand and the same thing. He says heat damage but I haven't used heat in months. I am relaxed and we both think this could be a reason. Has anyone ever heard of this or know what this might be.

there's an old thread somewhere on this... it's damage, i believe breakage mid-shaft... try the search function

Though you may not have used heat in months, heat damage can occur anywhere along the hair shaft and remain there until it is completely grown out or trimmed off.

I know that but those lighter spots were not there before. They showed up it seems after I stopped usin heat. I'll look for the thread.

Its most likey heat damage at a point where heat exploded your hair shaft.(bubble hair that completely ruptured) Im my experience, the kind you are speaking of doenst show up right away.

I've seen it referred to as - Trichorrhexis Nodosa.

I had white dots on the midshaft which led to breakage. Trimming was the only thing that helped.

I need a vacation. I read the title as White People in the hair. Good grief I came rushing in her to see who got smacked down for weave checking. Have a good Sunday.

Weird thing is I've read about white dots on the hair but I didn't know what it looked like. I really didn't think what my hair looked like was the same thing. Because my hair looked just like an "area" along the shaft that was a lighter color. Denial is crazy ladies. smh. I'm still waiting for my Komaza Analysis Kit so I can get some more definite answers and find out what I can do for this besides cutting off all my hair. Although I am considering going natural.

CurlyMoo that is funny!

I had this before when I was relaxed. I think they are splits or breakage points in which you hair will snap off at. The only thing that will helps is trimming and little to no heat.

I asked a similar question before and now I am natural and no longer have this issue.
