WHICH RED? (PICS) UPDATE!

Hey guys!

I made a thread last week, asking for opinions on what color red I should dye my hair. My original thread is here: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/hair-care-tips-product-review-discussion/526607-red-pics.html

Today was the day of my appointment. I was in there for FIVE HOURS! I haven't been to a salon since '09 (my BC was in 2010, but I went to a barber), so I wasn't ready for that yet. Rather than make a reaaaally long post about what went on, I'll just list the pros and cons:

CONS:
*She processed my hair THREE TIMES. Yes, three! Guys, I was so scared. The first time she processed it, my hair was like, white. It was that light. The second time, the blonde color didn't take, so we needed to put a rinse over that. The rinse is basically the same color as my natural hair, so a lot of my hair got bleached for nothing :nono:

*It's not the exact color I wanted. I decided on streaks of "Rihanna red" and the strawberry blonde Tanika Ray had in my first post. I got the red, but instead of strawberry blonde, I have small streaks of white blonde.

PROS:
*I love the color! It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I think it looks great. The pictures below don't do it justice. The color is the color in the cell phone pictures, but the brightness is like the camera pics.

*I got a good trim/cut. I'm not good at estimating length, but she probably took off between 1 and 3 inches all around. I was really apprehensive, but she showed me what she was gonna do, and I already knew I needed a trim. My hair was really uneven as the result of a botched weave/weave takedown at the end of last year. I forgot hooow much better my hair looks with a nice trim. I haven't put any shears to my head since my BC in March of 2010, and I'll NEVER go that long again. I didn't take a picture of my hair right before the trim, but it's a major difference. I'll probably go back to trimming about every three months, which is what I did when I was relaxed. My goal was to get to APL by the end of the year, but I'll be okay with nearly APL as long as my hair stays healthy.

Time will tell if I continue to dye (I'm really anxious to see how my hair reacts to all of the bleach after a couple of weeks) but as of now I'm pretty happy.

Okay, enough rambling. On to the pics! ETA: CURLY HAIR/REVERSION/HAIR LENGTH BEFORE CUT PICS ARE IN POST #21.

I think it came out really nice. I love that it's not uniform. I would love to see it curly, please update when u wear it curly.

Beautiful and the multi-dimensional dye job is hard to pull off for some, but you are working it!...and yea, I want to see some curly pics too!

Keep your stylist! Just close your eyes when she processes. I really like that she discussed what she wanted to do before she trimmed. I love the after but don't forget to post pics of the curliness! We can't wait to see!!!

Thanks guys! blqhrt I'm definitely keeping her! When I was relaxed, my hair was always bouncy and shiny thanks to her.

I will definitely post the curly hair pictures when I wash, I'm very interested to see it curly as well.

I like it alot! It's pretty straight but I have a feeling that it's going to be da bidness when it's curly!!!

All of the processing scares me though. Stay on top of your protein and DC's!

Awwww I had to look one more time! You're so cute!

Is it going to revert properly? I just bleached and colored the front of my hair bright orange and yellow (yes. this was intentional) and it loosened by curl pattern up by I guess one level to 3B. I didn't take mine all the way to white, and I used vegan vegetable dye.

Post curly pics, I'm curious.

^^^I don't know, I haven't washed it yet. I'm trying to keep it straight for at least a week.

It was curling up when she rinsed it each time, and when I was relaxed my hair never got bone straight, even when it was overlapped. It breaks off before it becomes bone straight. We'll see.

Love the color..Your hair looks nice & full/every-thing blends well with your eyes.Stunning..

Happy Hair Growing!

Okay guys, I'm back with pictures of my hair curly.

I actually wound up washing my hair the next day, because my scalp was itchy and my face started to swell. Come to find out, I'm allergic to developer! So no more permanent dye for me (just as well, because honestly I'm already starting to miss my natural color, because it's unique and whatev...). Anyway, I've washed it twice since I got it dyed. Here's the first wash, which I did with my color preserving shampoo, Shea Moisture DC and a wheat protein treatment (hair is soaking wet):

As you can see, my curls were looking a little sad. I don't have pictures dry from that day, but my hair wasn't standing up as much as usual. So, the next time I washed, I did pretty much the same thing, but substituted a collagen protein and mixed some YTCucumbers with the Shea Moisture to combat fading (the red is fading FAST!):

Damp hair:

It was kinking back up pretty well, but there is one section that I think is beyond hope:

As you can see, it only waves, where the rest of my hair is bouncing back. Here it is dry (the wave is up top):

I'm really horrible at hair typing, but I believe before I dyed, I was in the 4's, and it still looks like a 4a to me, so I'm happy. Also, since my hair is fine, it normally takes a few washes to get it's bounce back after a heavy flat iron like she did. I think consistent protein and no heat styling will prove very beneficial as this dye grows out.

ETA: It's about a month later. My hair texture is back to normal (even the wavy part)! There's no way I'll let it dry naked anymore, but here's a picture of a braidout, a few days ago (March 2011)

Oh yeah! Let me add a pic so you guys can see how much hair she took off. These pictures are from January 4th, about six weeks before the cut:

Hopefully I can still hit APL by December! Thanks for looking!
