You are of a certain religion or nationality? I have always worn head wraps, absolutely love them and they are really great when you are baggying your whole head or doing an all day deep conditioning.

Many times I will wear one and people assume I am from Africa or of the Muslim faith, have nothing against being from Africa or the Muslim faith, I just find it interesting that the folks that have come in contact with me thinks these things because I have a head wrap on. I don't mind so I normally go about my business.

Well today beat all the days these assumption have ever been made of me. I was taking my son to an appointment with my husband. I am sitting in the passenger side up front the car is stopped at a red light. We are in an SUV, so this lady comes up on my side of the SUV brings her car to stop at the red light to make a right turn, she looks up at me with her cigarette in her mouth and proceeds to make TWO cross signs with her hands across her body, she is smiling from ear to ear and I am looking at her like she has lost her ever loving mind. She does it again, smiles at me and proceeds to make a right turn.

I ask my husband what is that woman doing and he proceeds to start cracking up and I then realize she thought I was a nun in a habit (sp?) because she can't see my whole head just the front which shows black material across my forehead.

There was four of us in the car and everyone starts cracking up!:lachen: I tell them okay that is it take me home, now I am being mistaken for a nun. My husband proceeds to say to me hello Sister how are you today?!

Anyone else have interesting stories like this to tell about your head wrap days?

Not surprising. When I wear braids African's what to know what part of the Motherland I'm from and everyone else thinks I'm from an Island.

I am very careful about the kind of scarf or head covering I wear these days. I used to have too many people come up to me assuming that I was Muslim. I didn't really completely understand it because the way I wore my scarves and the head coverings I wore are very typically Jewish. But anyway, I'd have to break it to them that I'm Jewish. The women would usually be wanting to know where I got my scarf or etc, and they would still want to know. However, more than one dude gave me a lecture, which is something I'm really never in the mood for.

Thats quite funny...I guess it will give you a bit of mistery... Just be happy they didnt mistake you for Osama Bin Laden's crew!:lachen:

When I wrap my hair up with a scarf I usually toss a baseball cap on top of it when I leave the house. I've only seen Africa in pictures and I'm not Muslim.
