When you go to the hair dresser...

and you're getting a wash and blow-dry and flat iron what do they use to flat iron it? I ask because I just called a salon and she says that she uses that hot iron thing that goes on the little stove thingy...ack...should I let her use that thing on my hair??? She said it's okay, as long as you know how to use it on not do it too long....what do you think?

If you're going to do that, WATCH HER and be sure that she uses something such as a curling wax, etc. Be sure that she also does NOT take those irons directly from the stove and apply straight to your hair...she will burn it off if she does that. Make sure that she also uses some type of heat protectant cream or spray on your hair BEFORE she begins flat ironing it!

call one more place or bring your own equipment and see if she'll use it

I don't like any of those waxes, etc. that they put on your hair. Leaves it greasy and 'weave' like. My stylist used some kind of aveda spray and it left my hair light and airy. And her flat iron is on that levelled stove as well but she wipes it with a white towel first (to make sure it's not too hot).

Yep, they generally do the towel thing, or they just let it sit for a few seconds. They don't take it out and immediately apply it to the hair, or they shouldn't.

Isn't that what they all use? The one where they insert it inside the metal stove?

Some places use ceramic flat irons, at least the last two that I went to. Most use the stove though

that what my stylist uses and marcel and a stove. I only have this done every 3 months so I don't worry about it much.

As long as the iron is not smoking and she doesn't leave it 'sitting' on ur hair for longer than a nanosecond, u will b fine.
remember, stay away from those damn waxes and/or greases. all u really need is a thermal protectant.

oh wait a sec...is she using a marcel??? like the curling irons only this is a flat iron??? in that case it should be okay -- just watch her like everyone says

Make sure she tests it out first for sure

Well I'm back and I took a few pics with my Kodak Funsaver disposable camera.

CaramelHonee was right that curl wax that the stylist used in my hair has left it quite stringy and kinda greasy feeling. Oh well, I just wanted to get a sense of my length more than anything. When I came home from the hairdresser, my mom (who was at my house watching my little one) said she didn't realize my hair had gotten that long. It's not as long as I thought it'd be. It's about an inch and a half away from bra strap.

Anywho, I also wanted to look nice since I'm going out this weekend with my hubby. We're going to see that movie with Jamie Foxx and Gabriel Union ( I love her!)...

Now if I could figure out to get my goofy pics on my fotki web page.

Your hair will be fine, especially if it is not a regular styling practice.

I have had my relaxed hair styled with marcels and such on many, many occasions, and it has been my experience that stylists normally do not use these things unless they are proficient.

But, to answer your question, my stylist uses a ceramic flat iron, and applies Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum to my hair before the hood dry/blow dry/ flat iron sequence.

At home, I apply oil sheen to my hair following the hood dry/blow dry, an before I flat iron.

So, go ahead: Look beautiful!
