When Do You Say "Enough is Enough!"

My line is drawn at bags, phonies, weaves, wigs or braids. Most vitamins really didn't do much for me, generally speaking. I can't tell a difference when I'm not taking the stuff, so I can safely presume I am already getting what I need from my diet, which has always been pretty good.

I have a lot of limits...anything that has to be done every day, any vits other than what I'm already taking for general health, anything that costs enough to buy gas for a week...

My hair has always been between APL and BSL...I don't ever remember having hair shorter than 2" past shoulder length so growing long(er) hair has never been an issue for me. I originally came to LHCF and hair boards in order to restore my hair's health once I moved and no longer had access to a fabulous stylist.

So, I guess my hair laziness comes from always having had a certain length and just not being dedicated enough to do a whole lot to get it. ::shrug:: From what I've observed, maintaining healthy insides, taking care of what grows, and not chopping off every inch that grows makes for a great regimen. :look:

I think that makes such a huge difference:yep:

There's certain things I just won't do to grow hair. I tried MTG...got my SO to try it with me (I wasn't gonna be the only one smelling like bacon!! )

Those things were so not me. I won't take pills just for my hair. with all the vitamins and crap I take I want multiple uses!!! MSM has done so much to help keep my allergies under control (hasn't done squat for my joints..but thats what the silicon is for:lol: )

I research everything and seriosly, if the only benefit I get from taking something internally is hair growth, I won't take it.

However, I'm not gonna knock someone that decides they want to take vitamins for their hair....as long as they do it within reason.

I'm lazy and there's just not that much I'm willing to do to get longer hair. I can barely dedicate myself to frequent moisturizing so topical growth aids are out. And I've still got a bottle of folic acid in my cabinet from 4 years ago that I haven't touched in over 3 years, so pills/vits are out as well. If my hair can't achieve my goal length (BSL) with a healthy diet, proper cleansing and moisturizing, and protective styles then it just wasn't meant to be.

When Do You Say "Enough is Enough!"

When it makes my day to day routine inconvenient.

I really, really, REALLY want a lacefront wig, but the expense and moreso the ish folks are going through with that glue makes it inconvenient

BTW- I WISH that I could go back to baggying. The puff laughs at the baggies.

It is the vitamins too. Man i can't say enough that Biotin messed me up so bad. I have never had my skin be that awful and such poor condition. It looked like leather with pimples on it. Going to that from having flawless skin that was it for me....I also gave up on the topical growth aides. I think that biotin did make my hair grow, but MTG, really didnt do much for me but make my hair stinky. I couldnt take it. Add that to the Baggie method/ anything that makes me look like a fool, which means most ponytails.....

I've heard of some women taking such high doses of certain supplements that they start growing hair on their face and chest...Uh, "that's what I ain't gon' do!" I'm also not going to hang my head upside down for any period of time. I guess another thing I can't do is hang on to raggedy, see-thru ends and try to pass it off as "length"...:nono:

Lol guess that means i cant claim this apl then.. lol I can't either. I think the majortiy of the hair must be the to claim it, not a strand

 Why did it just click in my head that the reason my period has been a few days late the past 3 months might just have been the MSM! I'm soooo slow. lol. I did so much research b4 trying MSM and heard about this, but I've been using it for so long and it never happened until now. Wow..... and I also have been having digestive problems on the first day of my periods. It was so bad the last time, I was really scared. I had NO clue it could be the MSM. :nono:

............*off to dump out my MSM water RIGHT NOW*

Like some of the other ladies, I won't take anything that messes w/ my hormones or my health. The vits I take are for my own deficiencies (D, B, E, iron).

Another limit is... can I say it...? Coochie cream. :perplexed

Ladies I'm still trying to lose the weight the vits put on me. I wish I would have recognized sooner. I will not take anymore. I think the one the set it off the most was the Nioxin supercharge. They also made my breast grow and I wasn't having that either,

That is exactly why I won't mess with MSM. Too many potential side effects and the potential to mess with my cycle. :nono:

To address the thread, my limits are when my physical health becomes compromised ex. negative side effects. Luckily, the vitamins/supplements have been really helpful and beneficial to my health. Vitamins/supplements are great for overall health and that's why I take them. Hair growth is just an added benefit for some of them. I have so much more energy and my skin looks great. However, I'm not gonna take substantially large doses in order to acquire accelerated hair growth because I'm afraid of potential side effects. Too much of anything is never good so I try to montior my intake.

I didn't know it messes with cycles. I know ,cycle is a lot light now, and I am happy.:look:

Protein vitamins can make you gain weight. Your body has a very limited storage for protein and anything over that storage will and can be stored as FAT. The problem is, people don't know exactly how much protein they need.

Essential oils can have the same effect. Especially since some of them have a high saturated fat content.

Yup people don't realize that when you up your protein YOU HAVE to work out

They made your breast grow....now I may have to look into that:look:

I can't do the multiple vitamins. I stick to my multi and my old school scotts emulsion. I had to toss the flaxseed oil the other day. The MTG I had to draw the line, I got sick of cleaning my jewelry with toothpaste, and having skin rashes on my neck and behind my ears. ewwwwwww

ETA: my spelling

When I first came on the board last October I tried most of the supplements (including biotin, msm, silica), I tried tea rinses, acv, expensive name brand products, cond. washes, shea butter, olive oil, carrot oil and tons of other moisturizers, molasses, mn, capazin, mtg, cortisone cream, and multiple essential oils.

Anyhow, I would say I stopped doing all of that in February and just started doing the regular old wash, deep cond., moisturizer and oils.

I use amla oil (a must), Cream of Nature shampoo, hair mayo (pre-poo) and Silicon Mixx or 10n1, AtOne leave in (very creamy), S-curl or similar jherri curl juice (sometimes I spray this on my whole head) or any other kind of moisturizer and seal with B&B Hair oil. I don't baggy much anymore because every day or every other day I just spritz my hair with the s-curl and seal. I put Vatika oil or Minoval on my scalp every other day or daily if I have time. My hair has been flourishing. :)

Well let's see...:barf: Monkey Ball Sweat.:lachen::lachen::lachen:I was already a vitamin popper & health nut. I think more than anything I draw the line with something that worsens my health or would make me gain weight. I'm proud of my naturally slim figure and the quick weight loss following my third child.:) Don't want to mess with that.

Tried the Horse stuff and it was as far as i went. Talk about smelling bad and dripping oil. That was my limit. I am already a pill popper so taking extra vitamins was not an issue.

I absolutely looove Biotin, and it has turned my hair AROUND. I had increased my dosage several months ago, and my hair has gotten so much thicker and healthier. BUT its been causing me to break out. And that's my limit........ so i decreased my dosage and am taking less now. Temporary pimples that go away eventually are one thing..... but Im not willing to have acne scars in the future on account of long hair.

Some of the changes I've read on here are changes that some women would deem favourable such as a lighter period. I know everyone's body handles things differently and some of the changes may be harmless in the long run. However, I'm just extra paranoid when it comes to any changes to my cycle/period.

Yeah, biotin is the best! I really believe that has helped thicken my hair up. I love that stuff!

Well said. I cannot get on a biotin/vit regimen because I'm not willing to give up my skin. I do not want facial hair. Or weight gain. I stick to one multivitamin, exercise and lots of water. I won't use MTG because of the smell but WGO doesn't bother me. We all have our limits.

Are you talking about the Nioxin Intensive Therapy Recharging Complex vitmains. I bought those and ended up never taking them. I should have checked the ingredients before the purchase. I got the bottle and as soon as I read the ingredients I knew they were not for me. Those things are filled with stuff that will make you gain weight and mess up your hormonal balance.

Forgot to add my limits:

I do use the stinky horse stuff. LOL. I do take some vits like Biotin and a B-complex, but that's all. Neither has ever broken out my skin so I continue to use them.

I draw the line at:

Weaves/wigs/lacefronts/extensions, etc. I can't see myself using those things to grow my hair.

Becoming a PJ. I have finally found what works for me and I want to stick to it.

I think yesterday was enough for me? I'm not 100% better yet with my little asthma attack etc etc, so after reading the aveda sale yesterday I sent my poor husband to roosevelt field mall in longisland to get some aveda products because I always wanted to try it, when he got there the lady said she dosent know anything about a sale so I told him buy it anyways because of the reviews here, he bought the black malva con and poo, be curly enhancer, sap moss concentrate and a 16oz aveda damage remedy, he signed me up got some free gift etc etc, I'm all excited for bloody products, I ask him how much it cost he said over 200 dollars, I felt like I smelt neem oil and wanted to throw up, that's it I'm done with the buying of the damn products, I feel guilty like how I used to feel after shopping on zappos couture and buying 2 pairs of damn cavalli or guiseppe zanotti shoes for 1 thousand dollars thank god that phase of excessive shopping is over for me, now I'm picking up buying every product, yesterday was the last straw, those aveda things better work, the lady told my husband if its more than half full and I don't like it he could return it, it better work or else I'm taking it back!

:sekret: how much did you take that made your breast grow? and did they stay or reduce in size once you stopped using it? :sekret:

I draw the line at:

-baggying
-topical growth aids
-stinky, smelly products
-Regimes that take hours to complete
-Spending obscene amounts of money on products that sit under the sink:perplexed

Many hair vitamins contain amino acids that can cause weight gain. Some also contain phytoestrogens that can make our hormones become unbalanced and that then can cause weight gain and other symptoms. I have been worried about MSM because of how it changes people periods. Something has to be hormonal there and I can figure it our from my research.

Could this be the reason why I can't get rid of my love handles even though I went from a size 7 to a size 5 but my love handles are still here. You're telling me it could be these darn vitamins. Okay, I have been seriously considering cutting back on my vitamins anyways. I currently take 2 viviscal, 1 nioxin, 1 b50, 1 biotin, 1 acerola, 1 multi-vitamin, 1 epo, and 1flaxseed oil. I'm going to be honest, I am tired of taking all of these vitamins, well actually I think I'm overdoing it. I'm not tired because I take them faithfully everynight but I think I don't have to take all of these vitamins. I already stopped taking bamboo. I think I'm just going to take viviscal, biotin, b 50 complex and my multi-vitamin and call it a day:)
