what's your longest STREEEEEEEETCH??

Sorry Rapunzel...I'm just now seeing your post.

A couple years ago, I stretched for 14 weeks. Although I thoroughly detangled my hair once per week, my hair had still developed tangles. There was even a section that had matted. I'm a self-relaxer, and I struggled through my touchup, trying to limit application/smoothing time while not ripping all my hair out in the process.

So, I asked myself, why do I even bother to stretch? Overlapping?...Not a problem because I drench my previously-relaxed ends with oil and usually have at least an inch of new growth, which is enough for me. Reduced chemical exposure?...Not a concern because since I texlax, the relaxer creme is rinsed off in about 12 minutes. Extra thickness?...Again, not a concern because since I texlax, I still have plenty of texture, strength and thickness.

Consequently, I am no longer a stretcher. I texlax every 8 weeks.

Thanks so much Prospurr4! This makes perfect sense to me. I will be 14 wks on Monday. Everything has been going so smooth and then I washed this morning and my hair is rebelling. I have even been detangling every day to make sure all shed hair was removed. I will be self relaxing on Monday or Tuesday and I am considering not going this long again for all the reasons you stated. I hadn't even considering the effect on the relaxing process. Plus the big thing for me is all the time I spend out of my life with the extra careful detangling process. I am a 4bzzz and when I get a lot of ng if I don't detangle every day I also get little knots out of the blue. The info the you and Tarae provided has helped me so much.:yep:

12 weeks is the longest I stretched and its the longest I will be stretching. I took care of my hair the best I could but it still dreded at the roots and the coils were so tight that when I do my touch-up I'm almost always underprocessed. I will stretch 10-12 weeks, 2 1/2 to 3 months.

I've never been a stretcher before, but my steamer makes my newgrowth so soft i'm going to give it a try... maybe!

YEP!!!

Those steam treatments are the truth.:yep::yep::yep: I never stretch either. I am going for eight weeks this time because I underprocessed the last time and I need to fix that. After that, I am going for 13 week stretches so I can do the 4 relaxers a year thing.:grin::grin:

You're welcome, Rapunzel. Girl, I hear ya about the bolded. :yep: I totally understand what you are dealing with, being a 4bish hair type myself. I hope your touchup next week goes well.

6 months, 2 weeks which ended in Dec last year. I am not sure if I would do it again though. It was too hard trying to maintain the two textures without flat ironing regularly since my new growth is a coarse 4b and my relaxed hair is bone straight. If I did it over again, I would wear a protective styles like a phony pony or bun and just leave my hair alone.

14 weeks. I did a lot of prepooing with heat to soften my roots. Moderate weekly protein treatments became my best friend the further along I got in my stretch. I did start to experience knots and tangles toward the last couple of weeks of my stretch, but looking back, I think I didn't do a good job with detangling and I should comb off the shed hair before I shampoo. I am going for a 14 or 15 week stretch now. I'm currently 6 weeks post.

11 months & I'm still stretching, but I will be relaxing within the next week.

I'm 26 wks post today and i'll be relaxing next week because i so miss my hair and my SO is throwing a fit. Hates wigs and weaves.

BTW i'm dying to see my new length too with 3'' of NG all over yay!!

11 weeks. I'm just your average stretcher. Nothing hardcore.
I'm 6 wks. post now.
Hopefully I can make it to week 16 this time.

I am doing one now from oct until may every year i do it. so far so good it gives me a break in the winter, braids and wigs until may

18 months...
I had braids in forever...
& so much breakage..I wouldn't
advise method to anyone
who is trying
to stretch their relaxer..
.:(

My longest stretch was 16 weeks. When I took my braids out I had all of these little knots of hair all over my hair (also tingled in with the new growth):wallbash:. By the time I got done, there was enough hair on the floor to make a human hair lace front wig:lachen:...Never Ever Again.

My last stretch was my longest....21 weeks. This time I'm trying to make it to 24 weeks, only 16 weeks to go.

16 weeks. unless you are transitioning there in NO need for more than that. Between 12-16 is perfect.

I disagree. If you have a problem area that is sensitive to chemicals, and you don't want to stop relaxing :look:, the longer the stretch the better.

Nine weeks, and every time I do it (like now), I'm like "I won't do that again!" It's easier to do it during the winter months. When I get my normal summer growth spurt, I'll probably relax between 6-8 weeks.
