What's your dusting method?

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to get a feel for how many of you may go about dusting. I generally will randomly search and destroy whenever my hair is out. I also take 2 inch sections and twirl, then trim the hairs that may pop out of the twist. It seems effective, just want to be as efficient as I can.

What do you do?

pull out my split ender! i just make sure i detangle really really reallly really well cause the teeth will pull your sheet out!!!

i do 2 strand twist or braids and just clip the ends off, just a lil bit though

i take very small sections and twist and clip stray pieces...i do this while sitting in front of a mirror with very bright light or sunlight.

I dust my ends when my hair is twisted or do a search and destroy. Fortunately, the fairy knots are almost always at the end of my strands, so I just snip a little bit above them.

the last S&D i did was lengthy cuz i literally inspected EVERY STRAND ON MY HEAD. i did box braids with little black rubber bands on the ends, then took one braid at a time and snipped any with splits and knots. when i was done with that section, i re-braided it and put a colored rubber band on the end (so i would know i'd already done that braid). luckily this was during a weekend i didn't really have anything to do but i think it worked well. next time i get ready to S&D i'll use the same method, it won't matter if it takes me several days to a week cuz i only do this once a year.

also if i just happen to randomly notice a knot or split in my hair, i'll try to snip it immediately.

Its kinda hard to explain JETBLACKHAIR...if you google Split-ender it'll come up. I originally saw it on an infomercial yeeeears ago. And of course there's skepticism in infomercial products...but I took a chance and it has worked great on my hair. It's not as dramatic and blunt as scissors but it does the job and I really see a difference. It manages to clip the very tip of your hair as it pops into the blade. You'll understand what i mean when you actually see how it works on the website.....

To answer the OPs question, I dust by putting my hair in twists and then just snipping off the bit of hair that hangs at the end.

how i use- or should i say SHOULD use it

take thin sections, like i would if i were flat ironing, detangle really well, then just glide it down my hair.
you might actually have to pull out a brush to detangle it well enough. combs dont get the job done for me. and make sure you use a Thin section, cause with thicker you'll have all kinda problems, and end up breaking that section down smaller anyway.

Same here. For back sections that arent long enough for me to see, i just trim the ends into a blunt section.

I just checked it out online. That is some kinda contraption, but from the diagram it looks like it works. A little scary for me though.

For my dusting I just take small sections at a time and snip any mangled or split ends off.

How long does it take to use the split ender? Is it as time consuming as search and destroy??

I S&D right befor my relaxer...I part my hair in four sections...randomly clipping any split ends i see

After a relaxer, about a week or two later, I part my hair into small sections. I start with the front like I was rollersetting, and position the hair straight up then clip. I do that all the way to the middle. I then clip the same way from the sides working my way up the front middle part. I do the back in the 3 sections: left, right, then middle. I detangle and pull the hair as far as it goes and curl under so that I can see the ends, then clip.

Your box braid methond is a good idea!

When redoing my braids, after I undo a section, I stretch it and slide my fingers down the length till about a 1/4 inch is protruding from between my fingers and snip it off. I start at the back and do that to every braid section as I get to redo it, till all the hair has been dusted.

I do this every other week before i wash. I'm a bit paranoid about split ends as i'm determined to retain as much length as possible.

I've been doing this for the past 3 months and now i may only find 1 or 2 splits each time.

I've noticed that when the end of a strand looks significantly darker, its the beginning of a split so i may cut this off too.

This sounds tedious, but I'm gonna give it a try!
