.. with oil?

I really don't understand the concept of hot oil treatments. This weekend I did a pre poo treatment with warm Vitaka oil and I felt like it just sat on my hair. :ohwell: I'm not sure If i was doing it right but I didn't put in any conditioner just oil and left it in over night?

I know, like most things, you wont see results overnight but for those who do this regularly, what benefits do you get from it?

I know what you mean. Hot Oil treatments just don't work for me.

The oil just seems to sit there and coat my hair.

The few times I have done it, I ended up clarifying it away because it was too much.

Maybe I was doing something wrong, as well.

The whole point of hot oil treatments is to trap any moisture (because oil is used to seal moisture in and give shine) that you hair have and produce shine. But by the time it's wash day for me my hair is in big need of moisture so I wouldn't be doing anything but trapping dryness in. So, I find they don't won't for me either. They make my hair a greasy mess.

When I pre-poo I apply conditioner THEN apply oil to help trap in the conditioner moisture. Try doing that, but apply the oil sparingly. That give me good results, but just regular hot oil treatments for my hair is a nono!

Steps:
Wash with shampoo
deep condition (you can add heated oil) to it and rinse out

or
wash with shampoo
condition and rinse
hot oil treatment and rinse

I always wah out the conditioner, and with the hot oil I do it at the end to seal in the moisture. I wash out the oil at the end, but it does not have to be thorough. It's okay to if the oil is not completely out (or at least I don't mind). I actually like doing the first option better. It's like killing two birds with one stone. I never got the hot oil treatment before washing. I think someone told me that it was to protect the hair from drying out from the shampoo. I may try it next week to see how I like it now that this thread was brought up...

Le Kair Self Heating oil is very good for those who use heat. i used to use this and it locked in my colour i had on too.

basic hot oil treats dnt really work for me, but overnight amla oil (not heated) b4 i use shampoo is great for my ends

Hot oils treatments don't work for me either. They just sit on top of my hair. I stopped doing them long ago, too.

My mother has truly dry hair and she loves them. For me it was total overkill and I end up with a tangly and mess on my hands Plus too much oils will really harden my hair:eek: and makes it break.

So for me I'm better off just adding oils as I do now; sparingly and only after I moisterize first.

The only hot oil treatment that works for me is the Jojoba Oil...I think it is by Queen Helena. Something like that. :ohwell: Anyway, it makes my hair really soft whether I use it before or after I shampoo.

That was very helpful. Maybe I'll give it another try and use conditioner this time. If it doesn't work tho, I'm giving them up for good!
