what's the best hair dye brand?

hello ladies!
i'm going to dye my hair jet black soon (3 or 4 months from now). I've never dyed my hair except for i tried henna indigo once before, loved the color but i'm looking for something permanent. I'm also looking for something that won't leave my hair dry and brittle. Also when's the best time to dye hair? A month prior or after a relaxer?
thanks for the info. Oh and if it helps my hair is chocolate brown with a little burgandy undertone right now cause of the sun.

Do you use a semi-permanent or permanent?

Have you had to do anything special to keep your hair moisturized after use or is that not an issue?

Its basically a powder semi dye. Just add water. I also use clear glosses, henna and deep condition once a week.

I use Bigen oriental black too,it says on their website it is a permanent dye. I used to use Clairol Textures and Tones but it is hard to find in black in my city.
Be careful with Bigen though, some people have had alllergic reactions to it. Always do a patch test first.
