I HAVE MY HAIR TIED UP EVERY DAY I ONLY TAKE IT OUT WHEN I WANT TO WASH IT AND WHEN I WANT TO GREASE IT ALOT OF PEOPLE ASK ME WHY I KEEP WRAPING UP MY HAIR I SHOULD LET IT OUT AND THE MAIN PERSON IS MY MOM SHE ALWAY CRICTIZING IT SO I WAS WONDER IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH LEAVING MY HAIR TIED UP

Do you keep your hair tied up as a style like actually wearing the scarf all the time?

I don't understand why they are so concerned.

It depends on your style at least to me it does. Are you a natural? I find that a lot of naturals tie their hair in scarves but it is a part of their overall style. Like kind of that natural back to mother earth look. You know like the Erykah Badu types. It suits some people and their personalities. To me it also depends on where you work. I don't think this is appropriate every day for the office but this is up to you. Is there a specific reason you wear your hair tied up? And also how you wear it. If you are walking around with a bandana on your head then that is tacky. But I doubt you are doing that. At least I hope not

I WERE MY HAIR TIED UP BECAUSE I JUST THINK ITS GOOD LIKE NO HARMFUL ENVIRONENT CAN HARM IT A I GET UP AT 6 IN THE MORNING TO GO TO SCHOOL SO I AM USUSLLY LATE.

I say whatever makes you happy. If you like this style then that is up to you. If you feel like you need to change then do. I personally don't like to go outside with my hair tied up but that's me and my personality. I'm a priss and that would not go with my stillettos.

but if it makes you happy then do it. Maybe you can switch off sometimes or find easier ways to maintain your hair instead of tying it up.

You mean that you tie your hair up at night and just wear it to school like that so that you won't be late for school?

Why do you care what anybody thinks about how you style your hair? It's your hair and you like it tied up... what's the harm? Where's the concern? I mean, are you wearing a ratty scarf with stains on it looking ghetto or are you conscious about your appearance thus, wearing an outdoor appropriate headscarf/wrap?

I guess I need details.

That's what I'm trying to figure out too. if its the erykah badu type nice headwrap scarf that I see a lot of natural ladies wear then I don't see the problem. but if it is your scarf that you sleep in at night then I see the reason for others concern.

Also if you have relaxed hair and you use grease and always keep your hair tied up, your hair will start to smell bad. Also, I hope you are using a satin scarf so you don't break off your hair or sap the mositure out with a cotton scarf.

yeah, what kind of scarf are you wearing? i usually keep my hair tied up when i'm in the house, but i never wear it tied up when i go out. i don't wear the erykah badu type wraps because they don't really fit my style.

Why would it thin out your hair?

[/ QUOTE ]

For SOME PEOPLE, if u wrap continuously over and over or all the time, it can make your hair, mainly edges or ends, thinner...especially if u have thin/fine hair to begin with.

I've been wrapping my hair every night, with the exception of when it's braided for over 10 years and my has not gotten thin.
As for wearing the scarf every day I would think your hair would need some air.

So you've heard that wearing a wrap can thin hair?

Not a doobie but the actually scarf as a wrap?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes I have heard of it...the actual scarf can thin out your edges too, not just the wrap... JUST FOR SOME PEOPLE!

OOHHH!! I think it thinned out my edges. I was just looking at them the other day and my hair is so thick that I noticed the edges thinning and I was wondering what the heck was going on. What can I do? Wrap it looser?

AnnDriena-
Unless your scarf/wrap is made of a harsh fabric or moves around while you sleep, I would not be so quick to assume that your thinning edges are the result of wearing one. In fact, I don't see how it can be.

just a little side note....i have been wearing breathable, fashionable headwraps every day now for three weeks....My hair is in better condition (as far a moisture balance and split ends)than it has ever been....
