Some times I feel just so numb and far away from God. At times I feel that I am not doing enough to please him and when I do thing to try to please him I feel that I am only doing them to get something from him. I do not want to feel this way. Also I am trying so hard to get into the habit of reading the bible, but find my self distracted. And tithe out of every check my selfish ways get the best of me just to name a few. I still have yet to find a church have not been in over 4 years now. Please help. TIA.

I think that it would be a good idea to start visiting churches so that you can be fed the Word of God. Then once you hear a message and the pastor has applied it to a modern life situation you can go back home without being distracted by just flipping through the Bible and pray and meditate on the scriptures that you have heard about in the service. Also, I have just started reading Juanita Bynum's books and they are really good and show you that even people who seem powerful preachers and teachers of the Word have felt disconnected and lost. She personally shares her stories about reconnecting with God and the church in Spiritual Inheritance. One of the main things that she says is having a relationship with spiritual leaders is important and that it is important to be fed the Word of God by someone that God has called to preach and minister to people who are broken in spirit.

Well what kind of Bible do you have? The Bible is very very hard to read for most people. I have a children's Bible that has explanations and real work situations/readings in it. It helps greatly. Set aside time to read the Bible everynight before your nightly prayers-so you have time to think about you read. W/o tv, distractions, noise. Go in the bathroom if you have to lol! Then think about what is going on in that particular passage and how it could relate to you. It won't always be easy. I'm in Jeremiah right now, and it's pretty depressing and sad. And you don't have to read a lot. Go at your pace. I read about 2 pages a night. Just enough for me to digest the message.
Also, ask friends for church reccommendations. It's hard to cold call a church and waltz right in.

And if God is unhappy with you he WILL let you know. What you may be feeling may not be distance from God. Just keep up your prayers and be true to the Lord and he will never be far from you.
