What should I do with my hair?

I have 14 weeks of new growth and got a Dominican blowout on Saturday. I can see that my ends are really thin, and I haven't had a trim in months. I have pictures in my album. I'm wondering if I should get a trim, a major cut, or just let it stay like it is. What do you think?

i think that you should get a trim because if you have split ends it will travel up the hair shaft making you have to cut even more.

Hey Girl,

I say go ahead and get a trim. Keep a good eye on your ends, and keep them well moisturized. Maybe you can trim off a little once a month until they get better.

Definitely start trimming if you don't want to do a major cut and loose length. Since it is just as important to have healthy hair you should trim a little at a time until your hair thickens up.

I would also reccommend a trim. If you want a trim so that your ends look thicker it may be a little drastic because you will loose length. I would reccommend just trimming an inch and then let it grow for about 8-10 weeks and trim another inch so it wont be so drastic. You definitely dont want to hang on to split ends because they will travel up the shaft making you loose more length.

Hi, I would recommend getting a trim too. I'd say about 1.5", not all at once though. By December you'll have the same length *thick ends and all* and more, so don't worry. You want healthy hair. With healthy hair comes long hair. I like the length of your hair too, by the way. How many months did you do without getting a trim?

Why not all at once? Holding on to bad ends no matter what the length detracts from the beauty of the hair. I say just go for it. Get rid of all of them. Leaving them there is not going to make them magically seal back together.

Overall your hair looks thin to me. No disrespect or anything, but I don't see a big problem with your ends in general. They don't look damaged or split, or raggedy, just thin. How far up would you cut?

I agree...well maybe becasue Im OCD with my ends anyway. At least you now know what length you are capbale of getting to :) But MissJ if you feel like it will be too drastic for you then follow the other advice of the ladies :)

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I think I will get a trim. Losing an inch or 2 right now wouldn't hurt.

And it's not that my ends are split. They are not. They are as healthy as they were the day they were last trimmed in October, since I wear my hair up all the time, air dry, use no heat. It's just that the back quarter portion of my hair is very short from overprocessing, so the part that's really long is the middle portion of my hair. It has no long back portion to thicken it, but I'll fix it. :)

I would do a cut not a trim...but I would do like 2inches only. That is not that much. You will see a drastic difference!!! Then just go from there. Pay extra attention to your ends..love them up, with tenderness. 2 inches is not much considering that your hair is a nice length it just looks very thin- which makes it appear damaged. You just want to give your hair that extra umph, and fullness it deserves.
