Okay, Now that I've noticed that my hair is growing, what I realized is breakage is why my hair doesn't seem to grow fast. Okay, I was reading up on protein treatments, and from what I understand, it helps with breakage, etc...

Now, do they work and how much do they usually cost, oh and where can you buy them?? Thanks for your time!!

P.S. What is it?Is it like a shampoo or like lotion that goes on dry hair? Excuse me for beig ignorant

I like Nexxus Emergencee and Nexxus Keraphix. For severe damage, you should use either one once a week until you notice less breakage. If this is not the case, you can use either treatment once a month or 5 days before a relaxer and again 5 days after.

Emergencee costs about $16 a bottle for 3.3oz, but you don't have to use much. Keraphix is about $17 for 13oz.

Emergencee is a reconstructor and Keraphix is a conditioning protein treatment, and both get rinsed out. Please note that you should use a moisturizing conditioner no matter which one you choose. I like Nexxus Humectress (with heat for 15 minutes), but some people on thoe board have has less than favorable reviews. I would also recomment Dudley Q's Hair Rebuilder. Its about $11 for 8oz and works just as well.

You should be able to buy these products at any beauty supply store, but depending on where you live, you might find the Nexxus products faster than the Dudley's.

Okay, thanks...
So basically is a protein treatment is like a conditioner for severe damage?

Is there anything less expenive out there? I'm 16 w/ no job!

Thanks for the info butterscotch

sup kamilla,
i had really bad breakage myself and i used the apoghee treatment. you can buy them at sally's beauty supply. it seems to work pretty good, i'm still seeing a little hair loss when i comb but not as much when i wash my hair. plus them little hairs on my shirt after styling are gone too. but you need to follow the directions to the letter and use their mouisturizing treatment after. together the siample sizes only cost 5$ . . .

question: to those that use apohogee, would you recommend using another protein treatment? i want to make sure my hair is very strong. i know the apoghee last for 6 wks but can i add other thing to my regimen in the mean time?

Thanks ineedmoney!

I am going to have to try this stuff. So it works?! I hope so cuz i want to keep length not have it break off. I'll give it a try for sho.

You could probably use some type of mayo, ORS or african pride for maintenance, or Apgohee's 2 minute reconstructor. I use it for about 5-10 minutes with a self heating cap. After using the reconstructor, I use a moisturizing conditioner. By the way, try to avoid protein overload.

I like Motions CPR shampoo followed by Motions CPR conditioner. Both are right at $5.00 for a 13 oz (shampoo) and 16 oz (i believe) conditioner.

I alternate with a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner 1 wk then a protein shampoo/conditioner the other. I have been able to maintain a nice moisture/protein balance this way

Hello everyone,

I hope I ain't too late. The protein treatment I've used that stopped shedding/breakage was Ion repair solutions. This treatment is fabulous! Not only does it rebuild keratin protein, but it also leaves your hair very soft. I know alot of the protein treatments I've used in the past have left my hair hard a concrete. I would usually have to follow with an moisturizing cond. Not with this product. It has a apple pectin smell to it. You can get this Sally's.

hey kamilla,

i just tried using a hi-pro-pac treatment and it worked great. i had lots of slip and there is absolutely no breakage. i only paid about $1.05 for it so itz perfect 4 my budget!

i think this one is excellent, it doesn't dry my hair out, i don't need to follow up with another conditioner, it leaves my hair tangle free and it is not expensive at all. i use this one all the time.

Nay007, I just bought this conditioner a few days ago and I really like it. Thanks for the rec. How often do you use it in your hair and do u ever follow up with a moisturising conditioner? If so, which one do u use? TIA

I used Keraphix for the first time last week because it was the last wash before my touch-up on Thursday. I loved it. My hair felt soft, not moist. I then followed up with Humectress and then LUST. WOW !!! My new growth was soft and my hair feels strong.

i did a morning rinse but i ran out of curl activator (i use right on curl) and needed to use something to mouisturize my hair. i just globed on some humetress and put a wrap on my head, WOW IT WAS GREAT!! that is the best cream leave in. i love it, my mom has always bought it but untill now i never used it everday. it's lovely.

Ineedmoney I have to try that! I never used it as a leave in although it says you can...I usually use Nexxus Headdress for that...will try soon...

i actually found tha hi pro pac in tha beauty supply section of my supermarket so im sure u can find it either there or in any old bss.hth

I am also a big fan of the APHOGEE treatment for damaged hair. I't smells like "hot garbage" but it works wonders on my fro.

If I remember correctly it's 15-20 minutes under the dryer without a heating cap, and then you rinse. I'll have to check the bottle again when I get home.

Jherri Redding Protein Pac - around $3 or $4
HI PRO PAC - I pay more like $2 for it but it's still cheap
La Maur Bone Marrow Conditioner - about $5 or $6
Dudley's Hair Rebuilder - about $10
Diez Y Uno Conditioner - about $5 for a small container
Nexxus Emergencee and Keraphix - $20 and $10 respectively

Oy....what else...that's it I think. I use any of the ones except the Emergencee once every other week, with heat for 20-30 minutes. The Emergencee I use only after a relaxer.

Tracy, I was seconds away from purchasing Diez y Uno yesterday, coupled with the praises from this board; a few "outsiders" have expressed their like for this condit as well. Instead i just thoughta bout the bottles of condit i have at home and walked out.

As for protein treatments

Elasta BCS is pretty good (no hard hair and easy application) easy to find, its about $5, 6

Dudleys DRC-28 very pricey $50 for 16oz's but is soo worth it!!! this is heavy duty, i used it 3 weeks ago and my strands still feel strong and breakage doesn't exist. Only if it was cheaper :shakeshead: this is THE BEST treatment i've ever tried.

Emergencee is pretty good, but expensive
Aphogee is stinky works okay, but i'll only resort to usin this if i'm flat broke and NEED a protein fix.

ORS and CPR are too weak for me to see any significant 1 time use progress. These condits work best when used over time (1x weekly or bi-weekly) if your concerned about controlling breakage immediately, try one of the above. HTH

gosh i am glad to read all these reviews. i bought hi pro pac but had no idea what to do with it. it cost me a dollar and change if memory serves me right. i may give it a try.

i was about to buy diez y uno until i found it while i was cleaning my room. i was like i dont remember buying it.

i also didnt remember having aubreys gpb which i was tempted to buy after all the reviews i heard here until i found it in my room.

I also found Sebastian Suedeluxe Reconstructor. Has anyone tried this one? I may have to look into Nexxus Emergencee since it is so highly recommended here. I would try Dudley's but I dont think they sell it to regular customers and $50 is a bit much. God bless you all.

If I ever meet up with you (!!!!!) I'll "lend" you some. I caught a sale and have a few containers and wouldn't mind parting with one to contribute to the cause of the college student empty pocket...! LOL!.
