That's so rude and cruel for them to cut off his locs.

I would be mad if my dad tried to put a relaxer in my hair.

His mama thought that it was rude for them to pressure him too cut his locs of at that moment. She also new that he was going to eventually cut his locs to represent a new beginning, but not that soon. My cousin was ready for change that's why I said that they didn't win...he won and he felt free. It was eventually his decision he's a strong person. Trust me, they didn't hold him down and cut his locs...they knew better.

You look great. I give you lots of credit because it was a bold move and it looks great. who cares what anyone thinks as long as you are happy with it.

I totally agree!!!!

They will get over it, especially when it grows out and you can do more with it. It looks too cute as it is! You are going to have so much fun playing with your new hair. I know I did when I chopped almost 10 years ago. I can't wait to see how you progress.

Whenever we become more comfortable with ourselves, it can make those around you uncomfortable. Ultimately the choice is always yours. If you are natural , relaxed , whatever the most important opinion is that of the one in the mirror. Check out your reflection and SMILE.

I know! And now, I can't stay out of my mirror!

:Rose: But Poohbear, did you do it for you? or did you do it for them? It does not matter what they think, it only matters what makes you happy.

I SURELY did it for myself! ;) And I'm happy! :yep:

Awww Pooh

Your father sounds like mine. The first time I wore my puff he said "You need chemicals in your hair, hurry up and get your hair braided" He doesn't know anything about hair, he's a man. Your father couldn't possbly how fierce your new do is and the versility of natural hair.

Watch when your hair is the longest and healthest it's ever been everyone is going to want to go natural.

Well I aboslutly love your hair and you look like a doll. It's woderful that your boyfriend can embrace your hair. He sounds wonderful. :)

Your great attitude is your best weapon and defense against ppl you will meet who have negative comments. You look fabulous and you know it! Don't get mad at them, don't let them vex you and get you all riled up. Family & friends are great but when it comes to your hair, they either get on the train or get left at the station.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's thoughts, but you have the RIGHT attitude! They'll be fine over time. I think you look professional and very feminine. Your earrings go great with the look and your face looks beautiful. I don't know if you're wearing make up or not but it looks really good. :yep:

Don't fret over what their thoughts are, because you'll stress yourself out and then you may be affected mentally, spiritually and physically. You have too many other things to concern yourself with, like school and exams. :bookworm:

I agree with the other ladies. They are just in shock. That hair looks great on you! They said what first came to mind because they are in shock. Once they get used to it... I know their opinions will change and as it gets longer and they see how versatile it is...and what you can do with it, their opinions will change.

Be strong in your decision :) . You look GREAT!

Aww, Pooh, I'm sorry they said those things to you. My family is the same way. I think that's why I have some much drama about going natural myself. :( I hope you ignore them and be successful in growing long, natural hair, so they can eat their mean words!

Awww sorry to hear that Pooh. My mom had a horrible reaction to my hair too but she didnt realize I had cut the relaxer she just saw the length and freaked. I cut it in Feb, she didnt realize why until a couple of weeks ago. She was telling someone I cut my hair, I said well growing up YOU always said I didnt need a relaxer, so now that I've cut it all out you're still complaining. I just picked my sister up at the airport, she actually my worse critic, she likes it so oh well, there is hope. You fam will come around. Like the others said, its just the shock.

Welcome to the world of nappy where someone always has an opinion about what you should do with your hair and always wants to know when you will straighten it again. Sad but true.

Pooh, I think your hair is very cute. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what I think, people on LHCF or your family think. Sweetheart, it's all about what you think. If you think your hair is beautiful, that should be enough for you. People will be people. Just do Poohbear! Look in the mirror, what you see is you! I think you are beautiful and I believe you think you are beautiful! Hold on to what you think and do not let any one persuade you differently. Now, gone Poohbear and shake them haters off. Rock that natural girl!!!!

The only person that likes my hair is my boyfriend. I love him.

Most of you LHCF ladies love my hair. Thank you!

My mother hasn't seen it yet. She's real cool and probably won't have a problem with it at all. Sunday, she even offered to cut my relaxed ends off for me! But I told her I would probably cut it off after church, which I did!

My brother said I jacked up my hair.

One of my cousins said "Awww man! You better grow that back."

My sister said "I can't believe you did it! You're so brave! You have a dike hair cut now."

My dad: "WHOA! Your hair looks awful! Why did you do that, Pooh? You need to go back to relaxers."
I told him that "My hair does not look awful and the relaxed hair was breaking off so I cut it. I wanted to stop using relaxers and go natural. I like my natural hair and I'm happy with it."
He says "No one cares about that! You're suppose to look white...especially since you're gonna be an accountant!"

Isn't that sad!!!! and ignorant for him to think that!!!!! :ohwell: And does he know I do not care what other people think? Especially if I'm not doing anything wrong. But I don't care about their comments. As long as I'm happy with it, that's all that matters.

WHAT!!! Girl, you better not let those comments get you down. You look GREAT and don't let anyone tell you different....watch as the weeks and months go by...we'll see what they start saying...they aren't used to it, but soon "inquiring minds" are gonna want to know "how do you do that" and then those who critiqued you will be asking for tips...believe me

As long as you FEEL good you LOOK good!!!

Pooh,
Your hair looks GREAT. It's funny, but my mother today just asked me did I wear my hair to work like that, I normally wear it in a puff, but today it was more afroed and free-flowing.

If you kept your relaxer, then someone would have said something about your hair. If you colored your hair someone would probably dislike it. You can't win for lose. But remember you wear your hair for you and not for your brother, father or in anyone for that matter. Stay strong and keep strutting, because your hair looks good.

Pooh,
As long as you like your hair it's fine When I was natural I had people asking me a lot of questions about my hair and it was a pleasure for me to explain how my natural hair is different then relaxed hair. When I relaxed again people thought that I had a wig because they couldn't understand.
Most people, specially black were conditionned to have straight hair so for some of them to see a sister going natural is totally strange to them.

Don't be mad at them but teach them...

Your hair looks great Pooh! Must have missed the BC thread... Keep up the good work.

Brush your shoulders off Pooh & keep it moving...
Those who don't like it will be up under your butt when your hair looks versitile like Halle Berry's.....
Whatever Man!! :look:
Well said!

Don't worry, girl. I got all of those comments and then some when I went natural during high school. People love to offer their unsolicited advice, especially giving you the numbers of their hairdressers who can hook YOU up when they need to check their bald spots and the breakage evident on their shoulders. Anyway, people are always going to have something to say when they seem something "different" so stick to your guns and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now, if someone has something nasty to say about your 'fro (which by the way looks lovely), kindly tell them what they can do with their unsolicited advice. You feel me?

PB, I know it hurts. Its messed up. And this probably won't be the end of it. But you know what? Most people are resistant to change, and don't have the courage to change for themselves. You however have proven yourself different. Its ok - not everyone can reach the same place at the same time....just don't let it phase you! YOU LOOK SO GOOD!!!!!! do your thang, girlie!

Light shines, but it also attracts the occasional moths :)

wow...this really makes me sad.

I think your hair is so cute like it is now. It makes your facial features just pop and stand out. You look beautiful and I'm glad your boyfriend supports you.

Keep your head up and don't let them get to you. You look fanstastic!

Jessica, you look absolutely stunning! Very Queenly and beautiful. Despite what some of your family think and have said, you look very feminine and you will have the men fighting over you!
