What Kind of Sit Under Hair Dryer

Two questions:

1. Does the Ionic Bonnet dryer (pink from Sally's) really seem to make as much of difference than regular ones?
p1

i bought mine to replace another dryer that broke. my hair felt softer with the ion dryer............................. it could be the higher power though ???

I ordered this one from Sally's, but had to return it b/c my head of rollers couldn't fit all the way under the hood. It was loud too!

Oh no!! Im scurred now because even though Ive used it, it wasnt with a head full of rollers.

I have a Gold N' Hot soft bonnet which I'm lovin' right now. My sets get dry in about an hour and I can watch tv and sleep in that thing. I'm in heaven, just hope it don't break.

I also have a Conair hard bonnet.

I have a soft bonnet dryer that I use for deep conditioning

a Gold N Hot hard bonnet dryer that I use twice a weeks for rollersets

a Ionic soft bonnet dryer (the one that looks like a astronot helmet) that I forgot that I had until this thread

soon as mine arrives i'll def. add a review to this post.

my dryer's stuck in norcross, GA - prolly in the back of an old hooptie fedex truck:perplexed

naw shunta (the pibbs are way too pricey for me)

i got a gold n hot 1875w tourmaline ionic stand dryer - it's a new product that wasn't listed on the belson website yet.

http://stores.ebay.com/eBeautytown_Styling-Tools_Hard-hat-Dryers_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ20QQftidZ2QQtZkm had them for 109 + shipping. i have several gold n hot curling irons (haven't used in like forever but they have lasted for years and years.....)

thought it was a good deal after i called Belson about it.

Okay, Im pissed now because I bought the Conair standing one that is similar, but the one you ordered has more temp settings including a cool setting. Im sad now.:perplexed I want that one. I see that its an ionic, too. Thats supposed to be better for your hair, right?

don't be pissed yet because at least i saw comments and reviews on the conair.....nothing on this one and i bought it on a prayer that it does what it says and does it well.

I have a big pink Ion one that I got from Sally's. That thing can get hot, it has 4 settings including cool. I'm not sure what the wattage is but it really has a strong force of air.

LOL @ "hooptie fedex truck":lachen:

Thanks ladies for answering those questions.

I wish I had known about the Gold n Hot or Babyliss similar models that were ionic beforehand. I'm gonna test out the dryers ability to dry FAST with moderate heat on a long/relaxed client today. I'll report back. If it does the job, I'll just skip the ions (for now) and roll with this one. If not, it's back to the BSS for a refund/credit.

Help me understand, ladies. What makes the Pibbs so great? How are your results different from, say, an ionic or regular hard hat dryer?

I just had mine for a few weeks but I can tell you it dries really quickly on a low setting so you don't need much heat. It really makes my hair soft and shiny. I think this is the dryer the Dominicans use. I just rollerset and I am sitting under mine right now. I am about 13 weeks post touchup. The regular dryers from Walmart did nothing for my hair but made it hard and crunchy.

locfreeme I bumped a thread about the Pibbs started by machierieamore. It was because of Albane and Machierieamore comments I deceided to try it and I love it.

Okay, now I really want a Pibbs. I have the ConairPro standing dryer from Sally, but it's time for a replacement.

You will not be sorry. Check out the thread I bumped on Pibbs.

Thanks for the bump brickhouse. I'm just starting to rollerset so maybe I will save up for this dryer. I've already upgraded my combs, brushes, flat iron and blowdryer to professional-quality equipment, so I guess my hood dryer is next.

You are welcome. I debated for a long time and then decided to take the plunge and buy it.

After all that drama - my dryer's here.

boxed in 2 heavy taped boxes plus foam for the bonnet to sit on.....

you gotta put it together (naturally)

the stand base is wide enough that you don't have to worry about it toppling over, the bonnet itself has a removal dust screen and there's umm....6 wheels (not in front of me atm).

there's a separate ion dial on one side and the usual temp setting dial on the other (cold, low, medium and hot - hot means hot, gotta find something to protect my ears i think). the air blows out pretty good, with nothing under there you can feel the force of air about 5 feet away.

the bonnet itself is adjustable to i think 3 positions (good for the neck and back) and the stand is adjustable to 6 feet i think.

there's a visor that fits on the outside of the bonnet (it is not removeable) - you must have that visor inthe down position or the dryer will not turn on.

there are 4 clips to attach the power cord to the stand, 2 little ones for the top part and 2 larger ones for the bottom.

the true test will come once i roll up this big head of mine and stick it under there.

the only thing on first inspection that i don't care for is the way the bonnet attaches to the stand.....you put the bonnet's opening ontop of the stand and press down....i was waiting for a click or something to tell me it was all the way on but there isn't any. overall it seems sturdy enough and i don't see the bonnet falling off the stand.

that's all for now :D HTHs someone.

Yep me too! It seems like every body and there mama has this one!! I have it and I like it....I use it for deep conditioning....it is a little tricky to open and close like someone else said...but you get the hang of it after a couple times....

I am such a PJ...I barely use heat now and I want a Pibbs 514!! :nono: Sad, sad, sad!! Maybe when I reach my length goal in a year or two, I will get one as a reward and try out some pretty roller sets!

After reading some post from a few ladies. I bought a Carel Soft Bonnet dryer off of Ebay. It works very well and gets very warm. I didn't use it for a deep condition yet, however I did use it for a rollerset, and it came out nice. I can't wait to put my new dryer into use more often.

I've wanted a Pibbs 514 for over a year now, the price then was almost $300. I think that I am going to breakdown it get it from Ebay for $250.

Dang, this is the same one that i wanna get (the Pibbs, right?) But im not good at putting stuff together. :( Was it easy to do? Did you do it yourself, with no help at all.... or did DH help? I would be putting mine together solo. Gotta make sure its feasible before i order this one.....
