Protein also helps to maintain a proper balance of moisture in the hair. When I was natural, I didn't do them that much since my hair was virgin and much less prone to damage. HTH.

The only thing I do different is after my deep condition with UBH (1 hour under heating cap, some more hours with just a scarf wrapped around), I wash my hair very gently with KISS MY FACE olive oil bar soap. That's it! My hair comes out extremely soft, unlike before where it would be hard for days after UBH. ((however)), now that I'm using Elucence conditioner (which is very moisturizing), I prolly will go back to my monthly regime.
Protein treatments keeps my strands nice & strong.
