I do mild protein treatments once or twice a month....I find that it helps with the split ends I tend to get. Everyone doesn't do them though, if I didn't have any split ends or breakage, I probably wouldn't do them at all.

The big deal with protein treatments is that they keep your hair strong and more resistent to splitting or breaking. Protein also helps to maintain a proper balance of moisture in the hair. When I was natural, I didn't do them that much since my hair was virgin and much less prone to damage. HTH.

Would you recommend me getting a protein treatment after taking out my braids? If so which one? and where can I buy them?

I don't do protein treatments because they leave my hair hard. But during my transition my hair love Hollywood Beauty's carrot creme & that has protein in it.

Your hair is approximately 91% percent protein, and is made up of long chains of amino acids. These chains are found within the fibers of the cortex of the hair. If you are adding a protein treatment to your hair care regimen, you are building and strengthening what's there already. I use keracare reconstuctor. If you notice hardening after the treatment you should do a quick conditioner wash right after to soften your hair. make sure to do your final rinse with cool water.

I would recommend a protein treatment after taking out braids as braids can leave the hair a bit abused. The ends are also prone to damage in braids. I would recommend either Nexxus Keraphix or Joico K-Pak since you are still natural. Of the two, the keraphix is probably more moisturizing, and is more popular on the board. However, I have used both and both are great. You can find either at Trade Secret, Ulta, and many salons that sell products. HTH :)

I do mild protein treatments also... used to monthly, but that was tooo much for my hair... now I'm at every 2 mths. ((however)), now that I'm using Elucence conditioner (which is very moisturizing), I prolly will go back to my monthly regime.

Protein treatments keeps my strands nice & strong.

If my hair isn't acting up I use emergencee every 4 weeks. I had a 2 month battle w/ excessive shedding and was using it 2-4 times those months, thankfully it finally stopped.

Hello MY FELLOW NAPPIES!! I don't do any Protein Treatments because they also leave my hair hard and dry,and so far I haven't had any breaking or shedding, But I do Deep condition under a heat cap every 2 weeks, For some protein is good, It was good when I had relaxed hair but now that I am natural it just makes my hair hard so I don't bother with it and my hair is healthy and growing. I do Hot Oil Treatments and trim every 3 months and so far so good.

It's strange but when I first started using UBH protein conditioner, it would make my hair extremely hard. But now, it doesn't. :ohwell: The only thing I do different is after my deep condition with UBH (1 hour under heating cap, some more hours with just a scarf wrapped around), I wash my hair very gently with KISS MY FACE olive oil bar soap. That's it! My hair comes out extremely soft, unlike before where it would be hard for days after UBH.
BTW - my hair strands are extremely thin and silky, and I have low hair volume.
Hope this helps!

I guess I use a light protein (Elucence EMRT currently, although I'm going to be replacing it with something more natural soon) every couple weeks. My hair likes a little strengthening treatment from time to time.

Yeah, this is what I do. Or I mix an egg, evoo, oil or drop an egg into cholestrol or whatever. The only breakage I get is about 1-2.5 inches and that's okay because it's generally relaxed ends and I'm not chopping so it doesn't matter.

OT: Peach, that twistout is something fierce! You head looks like the back of you little momma's head.
