What is your opinion about half-wigs with combs inside? Harmful or Helpful?

I just wanted to know what you ladies think about the half-wigs that have combs inside to secure the wig to the head. Do you think that the combs are harmful? Anyone have bad experiences, ex. hair breaking off. :ohwell: Also, let me know if they have been extremely helpful (protective hairstyle).

Well I haven't personally worn a 1/2 wig but I know that my aunt used the phony pony with the comb attachment and I she has a huge bald spot in that area. Whenever I do wear a phony pony I either remove the comb attachment or don't use it at all cause I'm afraid of losing hair.

I agree you must be careful and possibly remove the comb. Some ladies here have actually used vaseline on the combs. I tried this and it worked for me. I am just very careful and take my time putting them on and off. The vaseline or some oil really does work. :)

I have used quick weaves alot and I never got any breakage, but I did make sure that I did not put the comb in too tight and I also put a decorative scarf around my head like a headband so that it would not fall back or off. The only thing I don't like about them is that if I wore them daily, my head would get tender in that area. The vaseline advice sounds good. I think I will try this next time I decide to put one on.

Thank you ladies for the tips! I will definitely follow your advice and be careful when wearing these.

I wear instant weaves/half wigs and phony ponies all of the time and I dont suffer any breakage.

What I usually do is cornrow most of my hair and leave about half and inch out along my hairline from ear to ear. Then I use a light gel or mango butter to smooth my edges and comb the loose hair back. I get a stocking or wig cap and cover my hair, pushing it off of my hairline. Then I put on the wig and use a hair band or scarf (as the other poster said) to cover the front of the wig.

I never experience breakage from phony ponies either cus I baggie up the top of my hair for moisture and protection. I make sure that I loosen up the phony really well before I try to take it off.

Instant weaves and phony ponies are my favorite protective styles. :)

I love them! I haven't had any problems with the combs breaking my hair off. I've been wearing them off and on for the past 3 years in between hair appointments.

i actually just started wearing them..i have just purchased 5 different instant weaves..i love them..and think they are so cute...the only problem i have is that when i tried a #2 it didnt really match my hair and looked way to black and shiny..and then when i went with a #4 it looked fine...but then i looked at it yesterday and my hair was too dull or dark for it...so im trying to either find a rinse that i can use get at least the front part to match it or not be so obvious...i really didnt want to go and buy head bands...but i use the same method..first i moisturize my hair..not to the point wear its too straight...and then i put a stocking cap over the back part and part from ear to ear..and put it on..i have not noticed any of my hair breaking from it with the combs...and im not snatching it out i take it out and put it in real easy..and i dont wear it all the time(like yesterday it was raining i went home and put a scarf on as soon as i came from work...when i workout too much sweat and it maybe too hot.)

i have noticed that people who wear half wigs have shorter hair in the front/edges
i think its because the hair that is out gets more heat manipulation etc
i personally hate them combs and even if i dont remove them i dont usually stick them in my hair i just sit the wig on my head and pin it down
-i never blend the front i just cornrow my hair and pin the wig on
-i like human hair they hold the style and you can wash them and dont have to worry about the ends of the hair looking chewed up they last 4evah
