What is/was your notorious hair problem and how did you cure it?

Mine is breakage in the middle of my head near the crown.

Over the past several years Ive had it break off there several times. It happened again 2 or 3 months ago and I cant decide whether it is due to stretching relaxers too long(line of demarcation) , or airdrying (fragile when cuticle isnt closed with heat).

This time around, Im combatting it by rollersetting under a hooded dryer from now on and will closely monitor it for the next several weeks. If it appears to grow out without breaking then Ill know that cured it, if not then Ill have to stop stretching. I also give that area extra conditioner treatments and moisture.

How about you?

My hair grows longer on the right side. I don't know if i've solved it yet or if I ever will. I'm trying though.

I wasn't getting much hair growth like I thought I should at one time; but what started my hair to grow was rollersets and using Lenzi's Request...I can actually feel new growth in 2 weeks after I relax my hair...:yep: I think flat ironing my hair was damaging.

I used to have a problem with my hair breaking off in the center back of my head. When my hair was straightened, my hemline had an upsidedown "V" shape...I really hated that. For years, my hair was stuck at a few inches past shoulder length, because I would have to constantly trim the sides to be even with the back.

I finally solved the problem by moisturizing my ends at least once per day and pinning my hair up to protect it from clothing and rubbing along my shoulders...Breakage problem solved!

This might be kinda nasty but I have an itchy, flakey scalp and it annoys me. What has been helping though is the use of a deep cleansing shampoo.

My ends were notorious for dryness/splitting. I cut out heat & started deep conditioning 1-2 per week and baggying the ends- my hair has been thanking me since by thriving!

I cured all my problems by cutting all my hair off. :look:

at least it was quick and painless instead of dragging it out if it was inevitable(sp?)!:spinning: I wasted a year trying to "save" my hair when its grown back and then some when I just cut it off and start all over.

I have had alot of major issues:lol: but the one that leads to other problems is my scalp. I have a very tempermental scalp. Itchy mostly and sometimes flaky to the point that it hurts.

What has been helping lately is Elasta qp scalp stimulating shampoo and taking extra zinc.

I am kinda experimenting with some other possible internal solutions so I will hopefully have a positive report to give in 1-2 months.

Ironically, henna and alma powder REALLY help my scalp but they make my hair so hard:perplexed Like I am still dealing with hard hair from my alma disaster but my scalp feels great

I also have breakage right in the middle of my head. That is the dryest part of my hair so I make sure I moisturize it baby it.

My problems areas are nape and temples. I try to keep them moisturized. I actually had a bald spot in my nape earlier this year but now it is to my shoulders(with shrinkage) and still growing. Work in progress

Same here. I wasted too much time trying to hang on to damaged hair. It did improve but it's nothing like my hair is now. It was like I instantly had all new hair. Now my only regret was waiting so long to cut it all off. My hair would be seriously winging now if I hadn't been such a big chicken. :ohwell:

It is the back of my head on the bottom. It looks like I get it shaved, but I don't! It started falling out in high school on the right side and just kept falling out as I got older. I still don't know why. It's making me loopy!:spinning:

I had hay for hair due to heat styling too often:nono: - very high temperature - but was able to turn it around by DC once a week for 30 min. Also, my ends tangled alot, but baggying twice a week and moisturizing on a daily basis have been very effective.

Mine was dry hair. I have fixed this my deep conditioning twice a week, using the blow dryer on a lower setting, sealing in moisture with oil, and baggying my ends at night.

Please, I beg of you, TELL ME WHAT YOU DID! I don't know what is wrong with it, but I feel like shaving it off under there and just being done with it. It makes my hair look so skinny from behind when I wear it down.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this is me right there! hair is growing in real slow but im beggining to think its genetic:(

dry, sensitive scalp: Alter Ego Garlic tx once weekly made the difference + usual oiling once a week

dry hair: ditching the no lye relaxer and growing it out. lose the setting lotion/foam,prepooing, chelating(1st lather don't chelate), rotating Keracare conditioners/products that work better for me.

my bad spot : back crown area: babying, keep separate when washing, losing the Gold and hot dryer that would fry that spot, while the rest of my hair dried.

Mine is breakage in the middle of my head near the crown. Over the past several years Ive had it break off there several times.

I had that same problem! My hair had been breaking in my crown consistently for the last 10 years. It would break off about every 6 months or so for no reason at all. At first I thought it was because of my relaxers, but now I suspect that my crown breaks so easily because it's actually the driest (and curliest) part of my hair. Now that I'm transitioning to natural, I have to be sure to add extra moisturize to that area every day without fail. That alone has helped tremendously so far.

My big problems have been, dry easily irritated scalp and breakage.

The breakage I've gotten under control with timely protein treatments followed by serious conditioning.

The dry scalp I'm working on. It's better but not great. It being winter right now isn't helping.

I had the worst problem with dry scalp (and breakage!) before I joined the Board. Once I started doing cowashes, prepoos, deep conditioning, and moisturizing and sealing daily, my scalp got better and I have not had a problem since. The breakage is another story altogether. :ohwell:
