What is the dumbest thing a hairstylist...

Gosh, I don't know where to start. But the thing that irks me the most, beyond the sloppiness, is when some one edges up the back of my neck without asking first. Two of the better stylists that I've been to did this, and because they did this I felt that I couldn't go back to them. I like the kinks on my neck, as long as they aren't shaved they blend and do just fine, it's when they get shaved that they cause me problems. It's certainly not the dumbest thing a stylist ever did to me, but for some reason it was just a huge dealbreaker

Was to put a !$^%$# relaxer on top of a Thermal Straightener (BioIonic) and tell me "Oh it will be ok since you have so much new growth." WTF!!! And proceeded to melt off my almost BSL hair to nothing but about 4 inches all the way around. That B#$%! !!!!!!!!

She saw my 4c texture and decided that she would go all out w/ the chemicals to burn it straight. She would leave it on so long that it would burn, & she would spray my edges w/ oil sheen to slow the burning. She talked about how she was letting it "marinade" I think she did 2 correctives w/n 3 months. I thought I had done my due dilligence because I had seen her work on my law school roommate for 4 years & the hair of other girls she did at the school. I moved from an area that did not have a lot of black people and was excited to be in a city where I could get my hair done even though I have had a lifetime of bad experiences w/ hairdressers who could not handle my texture.

Long story short, it all fell out. It looked like someone had taken a razor to my hair. My edges were just gone all around my head. & the front & top were gone as well. I was COMPLETELY TRAUMATIZED. I love beautiful hair. There was no style I could wear & I had to go into my first weave, which at the time doubled my trauma because I hated weaves.

The application of the weave goes is another horror story. I later found out that my weave stylist had issues w/ me dating my boyfriend. It was so tight I had to take painkillers & sleep for 3 days. She used 2 full packs of hair and left me looking like Chaka Khan until I worked my magic.

I could tell a lifetime of these types of stories regarding my hair, but these experiences forced me to learn to take care of my own hair. At bare minimum if I make a mistake I didn't pay hundreds of dollars to get there.

I once had a stylist with short broken off hair try to tell me that Mane and Tail "grew some hurr", but the only reason it didn't work for her was because she didn't want long hair. When I tried to question her about her logic, she begins to rant on about how she has a license and knows better than someone who doesn't.

She made a point of going on and on (rather loudly I might add) about how she didn't need "long hair", all the while trying to convince me to let her do something with my "nappy head."
When she bought Let's Jam and Marcel Irons, I knew our conversation was truly over.LOL!

I was in high school getting my hair done for homecoming. Another stylists asks my stylist if she wanted to go with her to pick up liquor so my stylist put me under the dryer for 2 hours while she went and to the liquor store

The ABSOLUTE DUMBEST thing I've heard a hairdresser say to someone else, then say to me before giving me a touch-up,

"You know you're getting a touch so there's going to be more shedding than normal today"

Wha?

And "Oh I am going to comb it through" Then proceeds to re apply to my over processed hair ALONG with her "comb-through"

Still can't believe I let her give me a touch-up.

my Stylist told me I needed my hair cut every single week in order for it to grow fast. So every week when I would go in for my wash & set she would do a trim. The give me a touchup every 4 weeks and do a cut. She kept saying b4 I know it my hair will be down my back. I kept waiting and waiting........
Came to my senses, left after a year with neck length hair..which I had the entire time I was going to her.


I was growing Halle Berry short cut out and my hair had finally reached my earlobes. I asked the hairstylist to do a light trim and even it up. Why did I walk out with another Halle Berry pixie cut, with the back all shaved off I still tipped her, walked in shock to my car and went home to cry


One hairstylist gave me a touchup, Call herself rinsing it out, gave me a shampoo and conditioner and didn't realize she didn't rinse the back of my hair. Right when she was getting ready to rollerset was it realized that I still had relaxer on my nape/kitchen area.

I have a co-worker that is a hairstylist and she is always conter-acting everything I say about hair. For Example:

*I said " I wish I could find my favorite deep condition in a large tub so I don;t have to buy it so often. Her response "Why? you only need to apply conditioner to your scalp." My hair is a little past my shoulders

*Another co-worker asked me how I tie up my hair at night. I said" I always wear a satin scarf, bonnet or have a satin pillowcase to keep my hair from becoming dry. She said "You don't need that every night. And it doesn't have to be silk. Cotton is fine."

*According to her, anything that I say that is not in the book that she studied from cosmetology school is wrong"

*I made the mistake of allowing her to do my hair. I just wanted a simple french roll. She used 2 types of gel and a load of hairspray. I had to wash is out the next day.

She actually has a license....no does she have common sense. What in the world would COTTON do good for your hair. I figured that out when I was 10.
