~**What is a Press-n-Curl?**~

Here is my home done press n' curl. And I'm a Calli lady no grease used...grease makes the hair flat, sticky and stiff.
And it gets dirtier quicker because dirt, grime and dust fairies stick to the grease which is just lying on the surface of the hair strands!:yep:

When I lived in cali, most women were natural, and did a press, flat iron and bump with the stove and marcel irons. Very little product is used to prep the hair and your hair had that swang! Since I've moved to NC, no one really know what I am talking about everyone does roller sets (which I thought was really old school). My stylist now flat irons my hair with a FHI, she refused to use the marcel flat iron on me! I have a stove and flat iron and pressing comb, but I am currently out of practice and now fear it! But I do miss that swang! The last time I had my hair done cali style was for my wedding by Ms Rubye in Las Vegas! She is from LA!

yup this is what I do , only I include the wet to dry press and use a reg curling iron and not the Marcel :yep:

great responses ladies, thanks.
can some of you refer me to stylists in houston and surrounding areas that press or flatiron natural hair? i thank you so much in advance...some of you have already given me referrals and i appreciate it. the more, the merrier~

I am from Houston and only knew what Press n Curl was b/c my great-grand use to get them faithly.

Thanks kblc06 and SignatureBeauty for responding to my very very basic question...

Born and raised in Houston...roots in Creole Countray!

Well, I got my hair pressed and I know of others who did too, and no one ever, never put curls in our hair! It was always just straight and flat and greasee...later, we'd all use a million of those pink sponge rollers to get some curlzzzz. Maybe it was because we were younger, but I just don't recall that.

I get my hair flat ironed and I was wondering if it would be a really different effect. Right now, my hair is just totally bone straight, no curl, no nada. So I was hoping/wondering if my hair would be full with more body, or if she'd put a weak lil' flip on the end of some stick-straight hair... I hate that look :perplexed.

It sounds like a basic question, but it really isn't. Since you asked, I was interested in knowing also.

I've never had a press n curl either. My mother used to just press my hair straight and use the rollers like you did. I wasn't sure how they did it either. Thanks for asking the question. :yep:

thanks for responding...i thought it was valid, and from the looks of it, it is....:look:

Ummm, I don't know if your hari is going to be big and bouncy if you go to an old school stylist for a press and curl. I mean, it's possible but most old school styists use a lot of grease regardless of what your hair texture is.

that's exactly why I ask, one lady referred me to a stylist and she says the women's hair looks like relaxers and is really pretty. The stylist is over 60 and the my colleague did not say it looked like a press. Some old-skoolers got skills, you never know how they do.
