Thanks for the welcome. I am intersested in the scoop on the conditioning wash can someone please help? I have just read "Another 6" " Cathy howse (love it!!!!!). At the moment I am only taking zinc, niacin and iron, however I looked over a lot of the regimes posted and I am going to change to the ultra nourishair w/ xtra biotin for a start. Does that sound about right to anyone? /images/graemlins/confused.gif Oh and by the way I am new to this can anyone help me with how you post your regimes and other specs so that they appear with each correspondence. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey girl,

a conditioner wash is this:

you just wet your hair and instead of washing it with regular shampoo you only use a conditioner (not too thick in consistency) put it in your hair and distribute it well (just like you would with a shampoo) and then rinse it out. that's it. a lot of ladies do this all the time and don't even use shampoo anymore and they have great results. not just on this board but all over the place.
i'm sure girls who do this procedure will post after me and give you advice.
take care, nay.

Thanks Ladies for the info. The conditioner wash sounds interesting. My hair is very dry at the ends and at my crown. I'm trying the "no trim thing" that Cathy Howse recommends but it seems that my ends are not getting any better and I hate the way they look /images/graemlins/frown.gif any suggestions /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I haven't read Cathy Howse's book, but I have been to her website. I (and I am not an expert) completely disagree with the whole not-trimming thing. I believe that we must trim our hair (our split ends that is) when they occur. And if you look at her photos closely, some of her ends are thin/see-through. Personally, I don't like that look at all.

Some people swear by trimming every 6-8 weeks. This helps maintain the hairstyle and keeps the ends looking fresh. But, if you don't have any split ends I don't think it's necessary to trim. I used to be a firm believer that it was and I think I was over-trimming my hair.

If your ends are dry and split, I would trim them. It is very little a product can do to heal split or damaged ends, it can make them better over time, but the damage is still there. I would trim the ends and then create a regime to fit your hair that would help reduce damage and keep the hair moisturized (which is key)...Okay, I'm sorry this is so long. But I hope that helps.

Thanks CarmenRose for the info (wasn't too long at all /images/graemlins/smile.gif)I think your right. /images/graemlins/grin.gifWhat do suggest about trimming? gradual or chop shop /images/graemlins/shocked.gif. As far as moisturizing I deep condition three times a week 30 min under dome. I ordered elucence moisture balance and the wait is killing me /images/graemlins/mad.gif

briesmom,

about trimming:

if you want your hair to grow you can't really go by the rule to trim your ends every 6-8 weeks. you should cut down on heat and treat your hair gentle and oil your ends so you prevent split ends/dry ends.

if your ends are split i would cut all of it off and start of with brand new healthy ends. cause if you do keep some split ends they will travel up the hair shaft. so why not do it now and get it over with /images/graemlins/wink.gif
and girl i know how it feels to wait for a product that you have ordered on the net /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
nay

I'm with Nay. **waves to Nay**

I think you should definitely trim those split ends all off and create a new regime with less heat and more moisture that would really compliment your hair. Good luck.

So ladies how long should I stay under the dome (if at all)? /images/graemlins/confused.gif and can you use any conditioner (instant for example)as a deep conditioner? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are you asking about a hot oil or deep conditioning? For both 20-35 minutes. Or if hair is really dry, for hot oil overnight.

For a deep conditioning, I wouldn't use an instant conditioner. I would use a good moisturizing or protein conditioner. A deep conditioner is usually separate from your "regular" conditioner.

Here are a list of conditioners that were suggested on this board (I think a link was provided before).

Aphogee Protein Treatment
- Aphogee Reconstructor
- Aubrey GPB
- Aubrey's Island Naturals Crème Rinse
- Dudley's Protein Conditioner
- Joico K-Pak
- Loreal's Nature Therapy Mega Nurturing Crème
- LeKair Cholesterol
- Motions CPR
- Motions Moisture Plus
- Optimum Moisture Rich Conditioner
- ORS Mayo Jojoba Conditioner
- Pantene Deep Fortifying Treatment
-Elucence Moisturizing Conditioner

Note that if it is a protein conditioner, it must be followed up by a moisturizing conditioner (like L'oreal's Nature Therapy or Motions Moisture Plus) and it must be rinsed out thoroughly.
