What If I do not stretch my retouch?
I started here on the board two weeks ago
now I am 6 weeks post relaxer (today)
The hair in the crown of me head is so thick and wavey:perplexed cant style at all. I am on a no heat regimen for the rest of the year so I cant use
my irons.

Question is what if I cant go but 6 weeks -- will i get the growth I want to make it to my goal?:ohwell:

oops, wrong thread

but to answer your question...

I'd recommend waiting. How are you styling/drying your hair?

What conditioners are you using?

The one thing that got me through my stretch was Aphogee 2 min reconstructor

Another recommendation - I had that problem at my crown with my most recent stretch (4 months) Apply your deep conditioner like you would apply your relaxer, with an applicator brush - that'll make your roots much more manageable

I think it's some ladies here that retouch at 6-8wks. You gotta do what you gotta do. If in the meanwhile you wanna work on stretching your relaxer a extra week at a time gradually then do so. Your hair is growing regardless. I feel as long as your doing everything else, deep conditioning, moisturizing, etc...you should be ok.

Thanks, it was 6 weeks this past Thursday and I caned the appintment.
Boy stretching is harders than it sounds--- going to push it out another 2 weeks
my roots are soooooo wavey!

I think it all goes by how much your hair grows a month. The purpose of stretching is so that you don't overlap relaxers. On average AA women grow about a half an inch of hair a month, so a month and a half probably wouldn't be long enough for women with a growth cycle like that. But there are those of us that grow an inch or more a month, and if you are one of those women you may be able afford to stretch for a lesser amount of time. As for me, I've found that it's easier to stretch when you leave your NG alone. It's hard, but just let it be. I only bother it when I'm co-washing. Then I will comb it through with conditioner and after that I just leave it alone. It makes stretching a lot easier.

You have to do what's best for your hair, don't feel obligate to wait because others are stretching. Since you are new to the board why don't you relax now, then try to increase it by one week each time you get a re-touch. Just ease into it and see how much your hair can tolerate. I did my first stretch when I joined and the new growth became overwhelming causing way more damage than if I had relaxed.
