What Hair Type is This?

Really?! I did not know that. So...what would that look like? I thought the letters after the numbers signified size of pattern. What the heck is a 4c then??

IDK what 4c is. I think somebody just made that up. 4b is just regular napps. Like an afro. Or like cotton. No defined curl pattern. The difference between 4a and 4b is that 4a has a definite curl pattern and 4b doesn't. It's possible to have a mixture of both throughout the head though.

I'd say 4a. Some of mine look the same way. And mine also coil very close to the root.

WHAT KINDA OF CAMERA DO YOU HAVE?!?!!?!?!!

... ??????!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!

?

My ng looks exactly like that. Sometmes I sit and try to twist the roots the other way cos I was wondering why why roots twist up like that:lachen:. That's what my ng looks like at 14-20 weeks post. It curls like that from the root:yep:. I say I'm 4a cos there's a definite wave pattern to in my ng when I pull it back.

Okay...now you have me confused. First off, did you just have braids taken out? 'Cause I've never seen hair form coils that close to the root before.

Now I would've said 4b because of the curl dimension as compared to your finger, but with everyone else saying a 4a, maybe it is. :perplexed

Then again, the typing only seems useful when you're trying to find your hair cousin or gauge how delicately your hair needs to be treated. For my purposes, 1 is straight, 2 is wavy, 3 is big curls, and 4 is little curls. If you know you're a 4 that's close enough.

I tend to view the hair type thing similarly. So long I know what 'group' I'm in, I'll know what products to chose folks to take and get advice from etc...

I think people made up 4c, just like 3c is made up, but I dunno what 4c would be because 4a is teeny tiny tight curls, 4b is fuzzy fro and then 4c is........:drunk:

Yeah... Mines looked like waves at first then about 3 months in it started to look like little curls like the OP's. But only in random places. Months 4 and 5 it all started looking like little spirals. Then it just continued to be spirals all the way down as it grew out.
Hmmmm that sounds almost excactly like my hair:yep:
Just that some of my wavy parts stayed wavy

4B hair does not have a curl pattern.
4a has a distinctive curl pattern when wet- are more round curls
4b has a curl pattern-the pattern is more tight pen spring curls untouched and it loses that definition when combed
4c and above have no real definition even sopping wet A strand when pulled lightly forms a Z pattern- It has the strongest shrinkage factor.
The OP hair looks like a 4 - if her hair grows in that way- her follicles are curled. Her hair looks like the section she took is 4a. And as the other ladies said- Nappy hair can change texture from one follicle to the next. The common denominator for 4 is that it SHRINKS upon contact with water.

Okay, now you sound like an authority. Define for me type 3.
This whole thread has been so educational I may have mis-typed myself? :ohwell: Hm...maybe...but not likely. Thanks for the intel bmoreflyygirl.

Cuz i absolutely do

The common denominator for 4 is that it SHRINKS upon contact with water.

So does that mean that if your hair shrinks upon contact with water then it's a Type 4?

Some Type 3's shrink upon water and they don't have type 4 hair mixed in.

So are you saying all Type 4's shrink?

Or are you saying hair that shrink has or is a Type 4?
