What grade would you give your mother for haircare?

An A.

My hair was never long and wasn't in the best shape but that wasn't because she didn't try. My hair always looked neat and styled though.
 
Probably a B-. She did ok, but my hair is coily curls and her hair has smooth waves so she tried to apply her own techniques to my hair which did not work that well. I'm really just learning to care for my natural hair on my own.
 
An A+ - My hair was always neat, combed daily, and washed weekly. I didn't have any breakage or thin edges. Given the products of the time (it was the early to mid 70s and Queen Bergamot hair grease ruled), she did an excellent job. I was natural until the age of 12.
 
I would give my mom an A. I had Rudy hair as a child. Thick, long and bushy. It was only when I started to take care of it myself that it started having issues.
 
Umm Can I give her a SUPER F MINUS MINUS MINUS
She never used moisturerizer in my hair,
She told my father "Grease don't make your hair grow"
She put a curly kit in my hair when I as 4 but never bought any curl activator.
She use to experiment on my hair with a relaxer or product before she used it in hers
And she didn't see the need to buy Conditioner, and most of the time just washed my hair with a bar of soap.

I didn't have hair for the first 6 years, I had peach fuzz

But I Promise I have recovered for the horror of my hairless childhood.

A+... It was always neat, healthy, and shiny.. and of course down to my butt...

A+...until the great Jheri Curl disaster of 1982 :wallbash:(she let Artelia from Artelia's Hair Concern in San Bernardino, CA cut my golden blonde APL length hair off to 2" when I was ten, talking 'bout she needed to get rid of the dead ends:rolleyes:). Can you tell I'm still a lil salty 'bout it?:look:
 
An "A" because she was gentle with my fine, fluffy cottoncandy hair and pressed it (rarely) with no product and a warm pressing comb

Also, she never pressured me to relax it.

B+ (mainly for effort). She kept it very neatly braided most of the time but she kind of struggled with moisture issues. Her hair is a very fine 3b and I am a very thick 4 something so she ended up throwing a relaxer in it when i was 9.

ETA: I should have said a 3.75 lol. You said on a scale from 1-5 not a letter grade:drunk:

My mom did a great a job.She would wash often and give me hot oil treatments and she was always gentle.
 
I hate to give her this, but she deserves an A+ for the ugly protective styles that made my hair grow long and thick. If you would have said 10 yrs old and up she would have gotten an F!!!
 
A. She taught me to take care of my hair the best way she knew how and my hair was always done. ALWAYS. And it was an ok length (SL), thick, shiny, bouncy, and I had all my edges.

My mom, grandma, and entire family was and still is almost totally clueless about hair.

My styles were always less than average, I'm sure I looked a mess most days. She never knew anything about her hair or mine, I don't blame her, there was and still is so much information about our hair.

On the bright side, she never told me my hair was nappy or instilled the good hair bad hair in me. I'm so grateful for that. I learned that from kids at school, and other family members, but I didn't get it at home.

I think I got my first jherri curl at 3 or 4. My hair was probably healthiest then, solely because of all of the moisture and baggying lol.

From then I was sent to the beauty shop sporadically for relaxers, and really never cared for my hair in between visits. I remember my beautican being so dissapointed when I came in saying I was tearing up my hair. (Even though she didn't offer any tips except wrap it up at night, nor did she have long hair)

From there I started glue weaves done by me at age 12 and it was downhill from there. I didn't care about my hair as long as there was weave to be brought.

My hair never went past NL. My mom and 10 year old sis both have locs now.

Defininitely an A
My hair was soft and long up until I begged for a perm (that she didn't want me to have). And my hair is a completely differently type from hers and it was very difficult for her to deal with it so she gets extra credit for that, lol.
 
I'd like to give her a "0", but since the scale is from 1 to 5, I guess she'll get a "1". She NEVER did my hair. My older sister would wash it with Prell. No conditioner did they ever use. I can remember when I was 5, my mother put something called Vigorol in it to straighten it out. It didn't take, so the next time she put it in, she didn't rinse it well, thinking it would work better. Luckily for me, my hair is virtually indestructable and it didn't all fall out. After that, she just decided to let me wear a 'fro every day - the best thing she coulda' ever done. I thought I was ALL THAT with my big sandy/reddish afro! Then came 1982 - the year of the jheri curl. She let one of my cousins put it in and it also didn't take, so then a few months later she relaxed on top of that. How I wasn't bald, I don't know...Just had to be the grace of God.
 
I'd say a C+. It always looked good and was relatively healthy despite the fact that she allowed the stylist to talk her into giving me a kiddie relaxer when I was 7 years old. :ohwell: She kept it washed and conditioned and moisturized though.
 
my mom definitely gets an A!!! my hair was at APL/BSL and thick for my whole life. she was so gentle that sometimes i fell asleep while she did my hair. i don't have an horror stories, and never had to suffer with hair i didn't like. thanks mom!​
 
I give my mother an A.

She did a good job with my hair. It was long and thick, manageable, soft, moisturized (Blue Magic Hair Grease), combed and styled neatly in ponytails, plaits, or braids with beads.

She didn't wash it that much though. She said dirt made it grow...LOL. My hair was between BSL and MBL. I got my first relaxer in the 6th grade when I was 11.

My mom and grandma get an A+. They didn't believe in using Relaxer chemicals in my hair. And my hair was longish and healthy. My grandma greased my scalp once per week and gave me the prettiest press n' curls. And she was always gentle.
 
DUH! Age 1-5. On that I give her a "B". She plaited it into four braids and left it alone. It wasn't until after I was 5 and my hair changed into "bad hair" (her words, not mine) that she stopped doing it. From age 5 to age 10, I'd give her an F-. Sorry, Mom! In every other way I'd give her a solid "A".
 
I have to give Mom F, she did not know how to do hair and when I got 10 I begged the relatives to do it. It took me 10 years to get her to stop putting jheri curl in her 3b naturally curly hair. Stuck in the 70's hair thing. I just got her to stop using carefree moisturizer, in 2006 and get her to use natural product. Now if I can get her to gray naturally at 68 and quit trying to be red head. I can't gray before my Mom:nono:
 
A+ for all the Saturday's shampooing and conditioning my hair then drying it then pressing it, then curling it. My hair was thick and shoulder length and healthy, wish I had that hair today. It all ended when she caved in and let someone put a "relaxer" on my hair that fried it and cause it to break. That was back in the 60's/70's, young ladies growing up today have SOOOOOO many more products and style options, knowledge and tools available to keep their hair healthy.
 
I'd give her a 3. She hated to comb hair and she'd do it every night before bed so I'd be fresh for school the next day.
 
I give my mom a 4 because she did her best. I have super thick coily hair, which her hair was not. My hair was washed once a month and greased, but I wore protective styles all the time, so she maintained a head full of hair for me. Long, thick, coily hair, I still have that hair to this day.

PLUS I WAS NEVER SUBJECTED TO THE STINKY COMB IE HOT COMB.

I use to beg my mom to straighten my hair and she refused. Little did I know, she didn't know how to use a hot comb.

The only reason why I didn't give my mom a 5 is that she didn't use conditioner nor detangler.
 
From age 1-5, I would actually give my mom a B+. I had the cutest Afro puffs, always tied with matching ribbons, and when I wore my Afro loose, it was fierce. My twists and pigtails were done up with adorable hair accessories, and my hair was always neat and clean and cute.

Of course, I got my Jheri curl at age 4, but she maintained it well, and continued to style it in age-apporpriate styles that looked good. Wearing a curl also meant that my hair was always moisturized to the hilt.

After she permed over my curl at age 10, things went downhill overnight. My mom knows nothing about actual hair care. :ohwell:
