What does this mean?

Okay I'm going to try my best and explain this. My hair is smooth, shiny, and lush until about 6 or 7 inches down the shaft then all of a sudden....BOOM....the rest of my hair (the last 4 inches or so) are like a poofy mess. :wallbash: You cant really tell when its straightened, but after air drying its sooooo apparent. They arent split or anything, just dry and fro-ish. I dont know what this means....should I cut it? :perplexed I have a feeling that it could be heat damage??? But I'm not sure.

Anyone else suffer with this?

I'm thinking it could be underprocessed. I used to purposely relax my hair to only about 80% straight....but is underprocessed hair supposed to feel dry?? I would think it would feel healthier than the rest of my hair, right? Please help me!! I know you guys have an answer...I dont want to cut it.:nono:

Awww....I'm at work right now so I cant take any pics. I'll post some tonight if I get a chance. But still I would like to know what the heck is up with my hair.

I suffer from the same thing, especially when I airdry. My ends look a frizzy, puffy mess.

If I remember correctly I remember my old hair stylist telling me it's from relaxer not being combed thru properly. I just deal with it because I'm afraid to over process my hair.

When I experienced this it was a number of things.

1. Under-processed hair
2. Build-up
3. Under moisturized hair

What I did to try and rectify the problem: -
1. Under-processed / under moisturize hair - up the moisturizing DC; use a daily moisturizer; baggy; dust at least every 3 months
2. Build-up - used a chelating and clarifying poo

HTH.

I have that problem too, but I have to really moisturize my ends when I dry set at night and the curls are pretty the next morning.

Do you blow dry your hair? Do you use flat irons or curling irons?

I had this problem with my hair before and you can get it to look right with the right products. I just didn't like it and wound up cutting it off. Now the funny thing is, I've only air dried my hair (no blow drying) since doing that and I don't have the poofy ends anymore.

I really think it was heat damage.

Soory but I can't help you . I hope that you will find a solution .
Nice to see that you are back , you have beautiful hair can't wait to see your pics.

I have this problem with my natural hair. It's still really short but The first couple inches are shiny and defined and then the ends turn dry and frizzy/afro-y. Am I not moisturizing correctly or do I need to trim my hair? I don't use heat. I cowash daily. Am I possibly doing too much manipulation?
