What does adding oil to conditioner/oil rinses do for you?

Just curious. (I'm sorry if this is repetitive but most threads just seem to say that people love it. I'm wondering from a physiological standpoint what it does for the hair.)

Thanks!

My hair is more managable and has serious "bling" from adding oil to my conditioner. If I add coconut oil after my conditioner/oil rinse I feel like I am double sealing my hair. It stays moist for days.

It keeps my hair extra silky, in a different kind of way. Feels like doll hair, and my normal shedding has decreased tremendously, I only see maybe 3-10 strands from the time I shampoo until I'm done DC and styling. It makes my strands feel thicker also.
