What do you use to make your hair more manageable to comb out in the shower?

Hi ladies. I am just curious as to what are you using to comb your hair out in the shower? I am having a bit of a hard time doing it without my pulling out my hair. :( I was told that I should maybe wait until my hair is dry before doing it. I tried and I see that it breaks off that way. I notice that my hair is softer in the shower but what the heck am I doing wrong? Everyone else seems to be having success doing it. Help please.

wide tooth shower comb while i have lots of good condish in my hair...usually i just finger comb. are u natural?

I usually detangle my hair in the shower and under running water after applying my conditioner. Once that has been applied, my hair is very easy to detangle. I've used everything from Suave Milk & Honey Conditioner to Silicon Mix and Capilo Milk & Honey rinse. All of them have worked very well. Silicon Mix worked really well for me when I had a lot of new growth.

No. I use a relaxer. U finger comb as well and your hair is not tangled once it is dry? I use a wide tooth comb as well. Maybe it is the wrong kind? It is a blue one by Conair (i think). the one that you can hang in the shower.

I am using Paul Mitchell Super Charge. It seemed to work well before but now since I am trying to use it in the shower to soften my hair after I deep con, a different story.

I noticed that you said you were relaxed...when I was relaxed I used the water pressure with my hair in the direction I wanted it styled afterwards...between that and light finger combing....my hair remained pretty detangled.

I use conditioner and my denman brush (d37). For a relaxed head you shouldn't need a heavy duty brush, but conditioner with a wide tooth comb or brush should help you.

no it doesnt tangle from just the finger combing. i try to use as little manipulation as possible. perhaps u need a better conditioner. i just stumbled upon Infusium 23 moistur(oligie) something liek that...i threaded a product rave about it. that stuff made my hair like silk in the shower. great slip and everything.

I always co-wash with Suave Waterfall Mist conditioner (it gives me 100% slip, and I also use it as a leave in, but I think I'm the only one :perplexed). Sometimes I find it helps to let the conditioner sit on my hair for a few minutes (to soften it) before I start detangling. I divide my hair into left and right sections, detangle a bit with my fingers, then detangle one side at a time under the running water with my W-I-D-E tooth comb and fingers.

so let me see if I am understand you...If I wanted my hair parted on the side, I would part my hair while under the shower and comb it/finger comb out that way? Did you blow dry afterwards?

Where can I get that Denman brush from? I was reading up about it a while ago. So it really detangles your hair in the shower? Is there a trick to using it?

What hair type are you?

I was skeptical about it at first but I am so happy I bought it. Give it a try it only cost 3 something.:)

Ok OK:D I think I will try this. Anyone else tried this? Where can I purchase this? Do I have to order this? This is a rinse not a conditioner?

This is what I do also. If that week I'm wearing a part I take care to not tangle my hair when I wash it. I comb 3 days a week, trying to knock that back to only 2 days a week.

This takes a little practice but when you get it right, its a wonderful thing:D

Some ladies also braid their hair before they wash because it keeps tangles at bay. I'm sure more people will also come in with answers for you.

ooh you're in ny like me so you should have no problem finding it. you're better off buying it at the BSS rather than ordering it online. i got mine in bk. go to any BSS that sells dominican products. it's just a rinse not a conditioner but the way it makes your hair feel you'll probably wanna use it as a pre poo or a conditioner wash if you use those. i bought it because kinikakes raved about it working on her tangles. let me know how it works for you.:)

I co-wash only!!!
Shampoo tangles my hair something awful...
I daily co-wash with Mane N Tail Conditioner...
I saturate my hair with it
and then gently comb through
in the shower
I'm 13 weeks post relaxer...
I think I can go a good 6 months stretching
I barely comb in the shower... I don't need to
MANE N TAIL CONDITIONER is a dream...
I've tried other expensive conditoners... they just don't work
as well for me. Before Mane N Tail I could have never
stretched out my relaxer this long.

I struggle with this too especially after about the 7th week post relaxer. I really try to avoid manipulation when my hair is dry because with combing or brushing I get breakage. When my hair is wet it becomes rather weak and I hate seeing all of that hair in the tub so I too try to use the water pressure along with a slippy condish to help with the tangles.

Recently I have been trying something new that helps alot when I am in after 10 weeks post. I fingercomb and lightly comb the hair when its dry and section my hair off into 4 braids. Then I poo each section one by one then apply condish. I let the conditioner sit for a few minutes then I start detangling section by section with my fingers again then with a comb. I sit in the tub with the water off at this point with a container of water that I use for the detangling. I am really careful not to tug or pull at the tangles so this can be tedious because I literally am detangling almost strand by strand. I then loosely rebraid each section one by one and turn the water back on to rinse. I keep the braids in during the rinse.

This technique seems to be really helpful in reducing the amount of hair I see in my drain.

Wow. What is your hair type if you don't mind?

I don't have a problem detangling. I guess my hair isn't long enough. I use the flow of the shower water and my fingers. I use a wide tooth comb after I towel blot but I have no tangling issues.

:perplexed Sad isn't it re what we have to go through for our hair not to break off. Sitting in tubs, running back and forth to the shower, etc :lachen: Caucasians only have to wash and con it one time!

I don't like getting in and out of the show about 3 times for my wash and conditions sessions.
